What is a Cloud?

Before we learn about Cloud Computing, let us first understand what is a cloud? A cloud is just a term used that denotes the internet. As we do not understand what happens inside the cloud, so also, the end-users do not know what happens when they search for their content but receive it in a fraction of a second. There are mainly three types of clouds that are used by end-users (organization, service providers, etc.) i.e. Private cloud, Public cloud, and a combination of both private & public clouds known as Hybrid clouds. It means that the infrastructure or the hardware and the software required for the internet users are managed by these organizations and the end-users get the service they want from their servers and data storage systems for a price.

What is Cloud Computing?

We can say that Cloud computing is developing technology that uses the collective power of information technology i.e. provides output collected from different software applications, hardware's, servers, or data storage spread over a network, functioning together for the user. When users in different locations or places access computing resources whether the resources are physical or virtual through the internet or other remote servers, it's called Cloud Computing. According to the service provided, it can be mainly grouped into these four models :
  1. Software as a service (SAAS) model : In the SAAS model, the service provider will provide the customer with all the facilities of the software application they have bought from them under a license agreement. They will have access to the SAAS applications through the internet via a web browser.
  2. Platform as a service (PAAS) model : In the PAAS model, the hardware and software tools required for the development of the software will be catered by the host i.e. the service provider or by a private programmer. The provider will provide the user a platform to use the cloud to run their application.
  3. Infrastructure as a service (IAAS) model: In the IAAS model, the service provider will offer services like virtual space, security, physical setup (hardware and software and virtual storage to upload or run their applications or program, such as an oracle, Oracle Virtual Box, etc.
  4. Network as a Service (NAAS) model: In the NAAS model, the service provider i.e. any ISP (Internet Service Provider) provides internet service and required bandwidth for data transfer to its customer for their personal or business purpose through proper network, security and routing protocol.
