The International Institute for Population Sciences(IIPS) is a premier deemed to be University in India that was established in the year 1956 under the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India(GOI). The institute focuses on education and research in population and health. Currently, admissions are open at the following courses in IIPS for the academic year 2021.
2-years Full-Time Master of Arts/Science in Population Studies
2-years Full-Time Master of Science in Bio-statistics and Demography (M.B.D.)
1-year Full-Time Master of Population Studies (M.P.S.)
Full-Time Doctor of Philosophy in Population Studies/Biostatistics & Demography (2 years to a maximum of 6 years)
Each Indian Student selected for admissions at IIPS in M.A. Population Studies/M.Sc. Population Studies, M.B.D. and M.P.S. degree programmes will be awarded a GOI fellowship of Rs. 5,000/- per month. Eligibility conditions
Interested candidates who satisfy the below-mentioned eligibility conditions for the PG and PhD programmes can apply for admissions. The institute admits candidates from all parts of the world. So, both Indian and International students can apply for 2021 admissions at IIPS in India.
M.A./M.Sc. in Population Studies
Candidates must have completed any Bachelor's degree from a recognized university in India or abroad in any subject with a minimum of 55% aggregate marks in all subjects. For the reserved candidates, the minimum aggregate marks expected to apply is 50%.
Candidates who are waiting for their final exam results and those who are going to appear for the final qualifying examination can also apply for the course but they should submit their final results at the institute on or before September 30, 2021. Failure in submitting the results may lead to the cancellation of the admission if the candidate has got selected for admission at the IIPS.
The upper age limit for the candidates who wish to apply for the course should be 25 years as of June 30, 2021. For the SC/ST/OBC/PWD/EWS category students, marks and age relaxation will be given as per the GOI rules.
Foreign candidates who satisfy the above-mentioned eligibility criteria can apply for M.A/M.Sc. in Population Studies admissions at IIPS if they can secure financial support from any outside agency.
M.B.D.
Candidates should have completed a B.A./B.Sc. degree in Bio-statistics/Health Statistics/Mathematics/Statistics with two full papers on Mathematics or Statistics from a recognized university in India or abroad in any subject with a minimum of 55% aggregate marks in all subjects. The minimum aggregate mark is 50% for the reserved candidates.
Candidates who are waiting for their final exam results and those who are going to appear for the final qualifying examination can also apply for the course but they should submit their final results at the institute on or before September 30, 2021. Failure in submitting the results may lead to the cancellation of the admission if the candidate has got admission at the IIPS.
The upper age limit of the candidates for admissions to this course should be 25 years as of June 30, 2021. For the SC/ST/OBC/PWD/EWS category students, marks and age relaxation will be given as per the GOI rules.
Eligible foreign candidates who have secured financial support from any outside agency can also apply for the course.
M.P.S.
Candidates should have completed an M.A./M.Sc. degree in any subjects such as Anthropology, Bio-statistics, Economics, Health Statistics, Geography, Development Studies, Mathematics, Population Studies, Population Education, Political Science, Psychology, Rural Development, Social Work, Sociology, and Statistics with a minimum of 55% aggregate marks from a recognized university in India or abroad. The minimum aggregate mark for the reserved candidates is 50%. Also, candidates who have a master degree in any subject other than the list of subjects mentioned above can apply if they have at least two years of experience in the Population and Health related field.
Candidates who are waiting for their final exam results and those who are going to appear for the final qualifying examination can apply for the course but they should submit their final results at the institute on or before September 30, 2021. Failure in submitting the results may lead to the cancellation of admission if the candidate has got admission at the IIPS.
The upper age limit of the candidates for admissions to this course should be 28 years as of June 30, 2021. For the SC/ST/OBC/PWD/EWS category students, marks and age relaxation will be given as per the GOI rules.
All the eligible foreign candidates who have financial support from any outside agency can also apply for the course.
Ph.D. in Population Studies/Biostatistics & Demography
Candidates should have completed M.Phil. in Population Studies/ M.Phil in Bio-statistics & Demography/Master of Population Studies (MPS)/MA/MSc in Population Studies/M.Sc in Bio-statistics & Demography from a recognized university in India or abroad in any subject with a minimum of 55% aggregate marks in all subjects. For the reserved candidates, the minimum aggregate marks expected is 50%. Also, candidates who have qualified UGC/CSIR-JRF or any other national-level fellowship are eligible for Ph.D. admissions at IIPS.
Candidates who are waiting for their final exam results and those who are going to appear for the final qualifying examination can also apply for the course but they should submit their final results at the institute on or before September 30, 2021. Failure in submitting the results may lead to the cancellation of the admission if the candidate has got admission at the IIPS.
All the eligible foreign candidates who hold financial support from any outside agency can also apply for the course.
The upper age limit of the candidates for Ph.D. admissions is 30 years as of June 30, 2021. For the SC/ST/OBC/PWD/EWS category students, marks and age relaxation will be given as per the GOI rules.
How to apply
Candidates who satisfy the eligibility conditions can apply for PG or Ph.D. admissions by registering their details in the application form available at the official website of IIPS.
While filling in the form, candidates are requested to follow the guidelines as mentioned in the online portal. For successful submission of the application form, all the mandatory fields in the form should be filled, the necessary documents should be uploaded and the application processing fee should be paid.
The application processing form fee is Rs. 500/- for EWS and OBC (Non-Creamy Layer), Rs. 1000/- for General Category, and Rs. 250/- for SC/ST/PWD. For international candidates, IIPS will not charge any processing fee.
Candidates who wish to apply for more than one course should pay the application processing fee separately for each course.
After successful submission, candidates should send the hard copy of the filled-in online application form along with all the supporting documents to "The In-charge, Academic Section, International Institute for Population Sciences, Govandi Station Road, Deonar, Mumbai-400088" on or before 24th March 2021. On the top of the envelope, candidates are requested to write " Application for admission to (course name)" in Bold letters.
Selection criteria
IIPS will admit candidates into M.Sc./M.A. in population studies and M.B.D. course based on their performance in an online entrance test.
At first, the institute will process all the application forms and will invite the shortlisted candidates to attend the online admission test. The shortlisted candidates can download their admit card online. On the admit card, candidates can find their entrance test venue. The shortlisted candidates have to take their admit card to the entrance test venue and attend the test on the date mentioned by the institute. The entrance test will contain multiple-choice questions from Logical Reasoning, English Grammar, Basic General Knowledge, Population, Health, Basic Mathematics, and Social Science Issues.
Admissions to the M.P.S. degree programme will be conducted in 2 stages- Online Test and Personal Interview. After the completion of the online entrance test, the institute will invite the shortlisted candidates to attend a personal interview at IIPS. Candidates will be finally selected for admission to the M.P.S course based on their average scores in Online Test and Personal Interview.
Admissions to Ph.D. degree programme will be conducted in 3 stages- Online Test, Research Proposal Writing and Personal Interview. After the completion of the online test, the institute will invite the shortlisted candidates to attend a research proposal writing and personal interview. Candidates will be finally selected for admission to Ph.D. programme based on their performance in Online Test, Research Proposal Writing and Personal Interview.
For the foreign candidates with self-sponsorship or sponsorship from any source, no entrance test will be conducted, the IIPS will offer direct admissions on a merit basis subjected to the eligibility criteria of the institute. For the Indian Candidates, the IIPS will follow the reservation policies of the GOI.
