How to apply for NEET-UG 2021

About the course

NEET-UG is the abbreviation of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test. It is conducted by a National testing agency(NTA), courses for admission to MBBS/BDS course and other undergraduate medical courses in recognized Medical/dental & other colleges in India. The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) is the sole entrance test for admission to MBBS and BDS courses in India. The exam is conducted every year. Before NTA, This test was conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education( CBSE). This examination offers approx. 90,000 seats in MBBS and BDS colleges in India. On March 12, NTA announced that NEET-UG 2021 will be conducted in offline mode on 1 August 2021 (Sunday). The exam will be held in 11 languages.

Eligibility Criteria

The candidate should have passed Class 12 or equivalent with minimum of 50% marks from a recognized institute with physics chemistry and biology. Candidates who have completed Class 12 or equivalent from an open school are also eligible to apply. Indian Nationals, NRIs, OCIs, PIOs & Foreign Nationals aspirants can also apply.

Age limit

Candidates should have completed 17 years as of December 31, 2021. There is no upper age limit for this examination.

How to apply

At first, visit the official website and then register yourself. Fill in all the mandatory fields in the online form, including the personal and academic details. Upload the required documents such as scanned copies of photographs, signature, Class 10 Certificate etc. The admit card for this exam will be available on the official website of NTA NEET. Candidates can download their admit card by logging into their registered accounts. Details of the exam centre allotted to the candidate will be mentioned on the admit card of NEET 2021. After downloading the admit card, take a printout of the same. Paste a recent passport-sized photograph in the space provided as per instruction.

Application Fee

The application fee has to be paid online. It can be paid using a credit card/ debit card/ net banking/ e-challan/ UPI. Details of the application fee are as follows:
  • General category: INR 1500/- + transaction Charges as applicable
  • OBC category: INR 1400/-+ transaction Charges as applicable
  • SC/ST category: INR 800/- + transaction Charges as applicable


Selection procedure

NTA-NEET admits candidate on a merit basis. After the entrance exam is conducted, the selection committee of NEET will prepare and publish a merit list of the candidates considering their marks in the exam. For the General category, the candidate must have had scored at least a 50 percentile. And candidate belonging to SC/ST/OBC categories, need to score 40 percentile.
After publishing the merit list, NTA-NEET will call the successful candidate to attend counselling as per their rank. Based on the rank, the candidate will be allotted a seat for the course.

Exam pattern

This exam will be for three hours duration. The NEET-UG question paper will comprise three sections- physics, chemistry and biology. It will be of objective type. The total number of question in the examination will be 180. Negative marking will be there in this exam.

NEET 2021 Dress Code

Due to covid-19, NTA NEET-UG has prescribed a particular dress code for the examination day, along with a list of items that are barred in the examination hall. Here are some important point about the dress code for NEET 2021 listed below:-
  1. Light clothes with half sleeves would be allowed. And long sleeves are not allowed
  2. Candidates wearing a customary dress should report to the examination centre at least an hour before the commencement of the exam
  3. Low heels Slippers and sandals would be allowed
  4. Sanitizers and the wearing mask will be a necessary part of the NEET 2021 dress code
