Closely followed by the PSG College of Technology and the Government College of Technology is a high-quality branded engineering college, that is clubbed with these two in terms of being world-class. This college completes the trio of the three world-class colleges. These three colleges are the "day 1" colleges on the first day of counseling for engineering admissions, year after year, in Tamil Nadu. This college has been around since the year 1956.
The Coimbatore Institute of Technology, or CIT as it is commonly referred to, offers the highest quality of engineering education. There are a vast number of students who have graduated and become entrepreneurs. Details of such entrepreneurs can be obtained directly from the college. Special mention is made of two B.E courses. These are the Chemical Engineering and IT courses, touted as some of the best courses for placements. The students are obviously from the cream and hence the Faculty Team is always excited about producing results of a high order in this autonomous institution.
The MSc (Software Systems) and the ones on Data Science and Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning are reportedly in high demand. It should be noted that such courses are the best ones for further study in the USA, for successful careers with the likes of Google and Apple Computers. Industry experts have confirmed that a big export pool is a salient feature of this college. Similarly, the M.Sc. course in Decision & Computing Sciences is reported to be among the best in the country in terms of depth and industry relevance.
The Research facilities of this college are reportedly very good and the website makes a mention of the interdisciplinary research that has a big focus on working across streams of engineering, health care, and management. The one hundred placement record is there for the asking. Rated as easily the best among the self-financing colleges of Coimbatore city by the citizens of this mini-metro city, this college has gained in reputation for being able to secure almost one hundred placement for its graduates. For example, in the year 2019, its placement record has been 96%, this being a record of sorts for the entire ecosystem of engineering colleges of Coimbatore city.
This college has plenty to offer. However, the B.Tech. (Artificial Intelligence &Data Science) is quoted by parents as being among the best in the city colleges. This college has an MoU with the prestigious Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), which enables it to offer the B.Tech course in Computer Science and Business Systems. Similarly, powered by no less an organization like Virtusa, it offers the five-year M.Tech Integrated Course in Computer Science and Engineering. This is exactly the kind of collaboration that is now being talked about in the New Education Policy and hence this college seems to be ahead of the times.
The B.E. course in Mechatronics Engineering is also reportedly very famous in this college. In fact, this group of colleges is spread over a vast area and has another institute of reputation called the Sri Krishna College of Technology, also situated within this same campus.
There are MoUs with other organizations as well. The Post-Graduate course in Business Administration(MBA) and the M.E (Engineering Design) are quite famous as well. There are also doctoral programs on offer in Mechatronics Engineering and Electronics and Communication Engineering.

It is for these reasons that the Sri Krishna College of Engineering and Technology stands out as the best self-financing college in Coimbatore city. This college is poised to grow in all aspects of educational excellence in the next few years.

Coimbatore city is a big educational hub for engineering education. Salient features of two of the best colleges have been discussed in the aforesaid paragraphs. It can be easily seen that the colleges have many strengths that will enable them to improve the quality of their overall excellence, year after year.
The colleges which are branded would surely be having much competition in terms of grabbing seats and therefore everyone cannot afford to get. The PSG College of Technology at Coimbatore is also good with four A+ ratings and with sixty seats each in all main branches. Coming to the author's recommendation of Coimbatore Institute of Technology, it has only AAAA ratings and the seats to courses are also low. For example, the CH course has only 40 seats and the aspirants are more. Again, the Sri Krishna College of Engineering and Technology at Coimbatore was rated with AAA+ only and therefore there cannot be many takers. The seat allotment for CE courses in this college is merely 60 which is very less considering the number of aspirants. And the seats for MC is just 120 as against 180 for other courses.
