Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER), Berhampur was founded by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India in 2016. It is one of the leading institutes of India providing education and research in Biological Sciences, Chemical Sciences, Mathematical Sciences, and Physical Sciences. Currently, the institute is accepting applications for admissions to PhD programmes from highly motivated students for the academic session starting from August 2021. Financial Assistance

The students who will join the PhD programme at IISER Behrampur will receive any of the fellowship:

Institute fellowship of Rs. 31,000/- per month
Fellowship from any other funding agency

Eligibility Criteria

Age Limit: Applicant's age should not exceed more than 28 years at the time of joining. Age relaxation of 3 years will be given for OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) and 5 years for SC/ST/PD/Female applicants.

Reservation: Reservation will also be given to the SC/ST and PD applicants as per the Govt. of India norms. These candidates will have to submit relevant caste certificates.

Minimum Qualification

Admission seekers must have passed MS or MSc or MTech or MPharm or MBBS degree or equivalent degree in any discipline of Science or Medicine or Pharmacy or Engineering or Technology. They have scores of at least 60% marks or CGPA/CPI of 7.0 on a 10 point scale. The CGPA/CPI must be calculated based on the following formula: CGPA/CPI in a 10 point scale = (CGPA/CPI Obtained×10)/PS (Where, PS = Point scale used by the Institute/University).
The candidates must have an excellent academic track record to get admission for a PhD programme in any of the above-mentioned streams.
Besides, the candidate must have qualified a National level examination such as National Eligibility Test (NET)/GATE/UGC-JRF/CSIR-JRF/NBHM/DBT (JRF A category)/ICMR (JRF category I)/NET-LS/INSPIRE-PhD/JGEEBILS/JEST/Rajiv Gandhi Fellowship or any other fellowship exam. The candidates must have a valid score/ fellowship while applying for the programme. Also, the IISER's students with BS-MS Dual Degree and IIT's B.Tech graduates with CPI >=8 are eligible to apply.
The candidates whose results of fellowship exams (CSIR-UGC NET/ICMR-JRF/DBT-JRF/ INSPIRE-PhD/Rajiv Gandhi Fellowship/Any other) are awaited are also eligible to apply. They must mention their roll number in the application. However, they will be eligible to attend the walk-in-interview if they have qualified for the fellowship examination before the interview date. Such candidates will not be called for the interview. Hence, they should write to the head of the department of the respective Department on their respective e-mail IDs (department-wise contact email Ids provided below) with a CC to caa@iiserbpr.ac.in and inform if they will attend the interview.
The candidates who are appearing in the final year examinations of their qualifying degree programme are also eligible to apply for PhD programme. But their admission will be conditional. They will have to submit the proof of the qualifying degree before July 31, 2021.
There will be given a relaxation of 5% marks or an equivalent grade for SC/ST/PD categories candidates.
Mere fulfilling the eligibility criterion does not entitle a candidate to be called for the test and interview.

How to Apply

To apply for the PhD programme, the candidate will have to apply through an online application form available at the official website of IISER Berhampur. The online application can be filled in a two-step process.

Step-1 is the registration on the online application portal of the Institute for the PhD admission. For registration, the candidate must possess a valid email ID. In this step (Step-1), the candidate will fill-up the details such as name, email, discipline (Biological/Chemical/Physical/ Mathematical) and the captcha in the online registration form. A password also needs to be created at this time. After filling the form, a confirmation email will be received on the email ID of the candidates which needs to be validated. Upon successful validation, registration on the portal will be confirmed.

Step-2 is to fill up the application form. First, the candidate will have to log on to the online application portal and log in using login credentials. After filling in all the relevant information in the online application form the application must be submitted.

Selection Procedure

The final selection of the candidate will be done based on the interviews. After processing all the applications, the shortlisted candidates will be called for an interview. To shortlist the candidates for the interview, each respective department will consider additional criteria such as academic performance or the performance in the National Level Tests etc. depending on the number of applications received. Selected candidates will be intimated about interview details by email. The interview schedule can also be checked on the institute's website.

Candidates must check the institute website for regular updates. The institute will provide a travel allowance (TA) for attending the interview to the SC/ST candidates only as per the GoI norms. Travel and stay arrangements for attending the interview are to be made by the General category candidates.
