Studying online - Pros and cons

Would you like to know the pros and cons of online study? What are the differences between studyine online vs offline? How has the online study percentage increased after COVID-19 or lock-down? Read this article for more details.

The overall percentage of online studies was less before COVID-19 and then it began differently, with a huge number of studies online increasing. This is due to the Global Pandemic (COVID-19) and its complete lock-down last year for few months and then lockdown ended for the various organization except schools or colleges or educational institutions and these were closed for a year or so even after the lockdown phase come to an end.

All in all, this Pandemic affected offline education too, and thus, studying online helped aspiring students from LKG to Ph.D. level without wasting their academic year.

Online study after the second wave:

The second wave of the COVID-19 is around and a few cities and countries across the globe are under lockdown in 2021 as well which obviously includes a complete shut down of educational institutions and non-educational organizations except some online services and a few other approved offline services.

Last year, many candidates got the Tab or Smartphones or Smart devices and online classes helped them to use the time effectively for their studies from home itself. Though it doesn't give the immense benefit of offline education from school or colleges' etc. Something is better than nothing.

We need to recall or just imagine what would have had happened in case if a similar lockdown or situation was imposed prior to the Digital (Tab or Smartphone) era or a few decades back where we could have missed even studying online too. Few years might have just passed without online or offline studies or education or training etc. and many kids or students would have spoiled the time and psychologically got affected on non-routine things for sure.

How to effectively use the timing for online study?

In the current crisis, students have to utilize their time for study purposes in a serious manner even though they are at home most of the time. They need to make a proper schedule on this for offline education besides scheduled online classes. Wasting time in such a situation may trouble in the future or their future study.

In India, a few states have already instructed candidates to study online from home and very few class students are allowed or can come to school or college at their own or their parent's risk. Most of the kid's education is not allowed or from LKG to 10th standard is not allowed in school in a particular state or wherever COVID-19 cases are still increasing.

There would be Pros and Cons in everything. It applies to such a situation as well which one can't avoid unless if we would have taken precaution measures on time. Studying online is in the beginning stage, and thus, it will take many years to get a high reputation like an offline education.

Few Pros and Cons of study online:
Pros:
  • Study from home without much physical tiredness.

  • No travel or carrying huge bags (by kids).

  • Convenience.

  • Get the study material via email.

  • Parent's assistance on education.

Cons:
  • No direct interaction with the teachers or school mate on the subject matter.

  • No practical involvement on the subject.

  • Need Tab or Computer and uninterrupted Internet connectivity.

  • Less recognized or less reputation.

  • Science or Research related courses need direct training or teaching.

  • Disturbing environment overall.

The COVID-19 vaccine has come finally and Government did help a lot on this for the safety of the citizen. They have prioritized the vaccine for all. Hope it helps the students as well.

All are trying to adopt this system for the benefit of the students in this situation. In India, there are various shortcomings to maintain the study through online mode. The students of LKG, UKG and Standard 1 have passed the final examination and have been admitted to the next higher classes for the 2021-22 academic session but they do not even know their school building or classmates. Now another problem that arises on online mode is that the smaller children do not know a bit regarding the operation of devices and writing or replying to the question during class hours. This necessitates the requirement of someone to assist them. In many families where both the parents are working or are engaged otherwise, such an arrangement may not be possible. Hence in practice, this is one of the biggest disadvantages of the online system for the kids.

A nice article is given by the author. Online education, which is already a part of our technology and implemented in various places, but due to the pandemic, this system and its efforts have increased its value significantly. When Corona knocked in the world, then many sectors had to be affected one by one and its impact on the education system would have been very negative, but due to online education, the education of children was not allowed to be hindered. Therefore, online education has proved to be a boon, we admit that it also has some disadvantages as well, but based on the demand of the present situation where we can not take a single risk with lives, online education is the only best option. We must appreciate the teachers and management of the schools who are giving their more and more effort to maintaining classes and education level.
