The main areas where the research is conducted in this institute are Medicinal Chemistry, Rare diseases, Metabolic syndrome, Zebrafish, Cancer, and Nanotechnology. All these are niche areas and have immense research potential.
In Medicinal Chemistry new chemical compositions and formulations are developed to be used as a drug for a particular ailment in humans as well as animals and to arrive at pharmacological solutions. Under the rare disease group, fundamental research is required to model disease and then find a viable solution. This requires bigger coordination between the agencies engaged in treating and mitigating rare diseases. Another research area is under the heading of Metabolic Syndrome where studies and research are carried out for finding the reasons for the metabolic disorders in the body (like diabetes, extreme obesity, hypertension etc) and finding medical solutions. Another interesting area is Zebrafish where functions like gene editing and protein function investigation are studied and zebrafish models of pharmacology and toxicology are developed.
