About ILBS

The Institute of Liver & Biliary Sciences (ILBS) is an autonomous super-speciality Institute of excellence established by the Government of the National Capital Territory (NCT) of Delhi. It is a deemed-to-be-University under the UGC notification under section 3 of the UGC Act 1956. The Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences (Deemed-to-be University) has been accorded with the 'A' Grade by National Assessment and Accreditation Council. The institute is aimed to provide high-quality care to patients. ILBS also focuses on education, training and research in the field of liver and biliary sciences and other allied disciplines. Institute offers various courses such as a PhD, Post-Doctoral Certificate Course (PDCC), Post-Graduate Certificate Course (PGCC), Certificate courses and Fellowship etc. The Institute is a fully residential complex. ILBS has released an official notification (Advertisement No. ILBS Academic 01/2021) and invited applications from eligible candidates for admission in PhD programmes.

Number of Seats: The number of seats in each of the PhD programme is variable.

Duration of the Courses: 3-5 years

Fees Structure for PhD Program

  1. Tuition fee: Rs.3,000/- per annum
  2. Library fee: Rs.5,000/- per annum
  3. Examination Fee: Rs.10,000/-
  4. Caution Deposit: Rs.20,000/- (Refundable)


Eligibility Criteria

Regular Candidates
  • The candidates must have a Master's Degree in Biological Sciences such as Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Life Sciences, Zoology, Microbiology or a Professional degree such as MBBS, Master Degree in Medical or Dental Sciences, M.Tech, M.Pharma, MVSc or other degrees.
  • They must have obtained a minimum of 60% aggregate marks in or its equivalent grade as per UGC guidelines.
  • NET Qualified Candidates: The candidates who have qualified for a national level examination like CSIR/UGC-NET JRF, DBT-JRF, ICMR-JRF need to appear for a Direct Interview/Departmental Assessment.
  • Non-NET qualified candidates: To be eligible for admission in the PhD programme at ILBS, Non-NET qualified candidates will have to appear in a written test followed by an interview/Departmental Assessment.


Sponsored Candidates
  • These candidates must have been in regular employment and will be sponsored by their employer at the time of admission.
  • They must have obtained consent from the sponsoring organisation and a certificate must be provided mentioning that they will provide full salary to the candidate and relieve him/her to pursue the programme.
  • They must meet the minimum eligibility criteria required for admission in the PhD programme.


How to Apply

The interested candidates who wish to apply for PhD programmes at ILBS must visit the official website of ILBS. The candidates must download the prospectus from the website and read carefully and check their eligibility before applying. The candidates should apply online through the "Login Panel for Academics APPL" at the ILBS website. The candidates must fill in the full name (as per school records), contact number and correspondence address in the application. All the forms and other requisite documents must be submitted. The application form should be filled carefully and rechecked before submitting it. All the columns must be filled as incomplete and defective applications will not be considered and will be rejected. In-service candidates can apply for sponsored seats and send their application through the proper channel. An application fee of Rs.1000/- is to be paid by the candidates along with the online application through net banking or debit cards or credit cards. The application fee once paid will not be refunded even in case of his/her application is rejected. The candidates must note that the furnishing of incorrect or false information in the application form will lead to disqualification.

Admission Procedure

Selection of the candidates will be made based on an entrance test. Only shortlisted candidates will be called for the entrance test. The entrance examination will be conducted in 2 shifts. The final selection of the candidates will be confirmed only after verification of original certificates.
