About the Programme

The Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore offers a four-year bachelor's degree which will provide interdisciplinary experience to the students and prepare them for academia and industries. Students who will do a Bachelor of Science (Research) will be eligible for getting a Master's degree in their fifth year in the institute. IISc has released an official notification and invited applications from the highly motivated students for admission in Bachelor of Science (Research) for the session 2021.

Specialization Available in the Bachelor of Science (Research) Programme

After completion of 3 semesters, the candidates will have to opt for any of the specialization (Major):
Programme Duration: 4-years. The last two years will involve extensive research.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for admission in Bachelor of Science (Research) Programmes, the candidates must have passed 10+2 or appeared for the 10+2 board examination or equivalent in 2021. They must have studied Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as the main subjects in their qualifying exam. However, those who have studied Biology, Statistics, Electronics, Computer Science, etc., besides main subjects, are also eligible to apply. The candidates must have got 60% marks or first class or equivalent grade in 10+2 class. The requirement of 60% marks in the qualifying exam will be relaxed for SC/ST candidates. They need only pass class in the qualifying exam for admission in Bachelor of Science (Research). They must have qualified for any of the national level entrance exams such as KVPY, IIT-JEE (Main and Advanced) and NEET, etc.

Reservation Norms

Reservations will be given as per Government of India rules to the SC/ST/OBC-NCL/EWS/PwD and Kashmiri-Migrants, Kashmiri Pandits/Kashmiri Hindu Families (Non-Migrants) living in the Kashmir valley. However, SC/ST/OBC candidates will have to produce a valid category certificate ( issued by the Competent Authority) issued after 31 March 2021. OBC candidates can check their eligibility at www.ncbc.nic.in.

How to Apply

The candidates can fill the application form online by visiting official website of IISc Bangalore and read the instructions carefully before applying. The online application portal is already open and accepting applications. To fill the application form, access the website at www.iisc.ac.in-- Admissions-- click Apply Online (link also provided at the end of this article). First, the candidate must register on the portal and log in using login credentials. Thereafter, the application form must be filled and submitted well before time. The candidates must check the admission portal regularly for admission-related updates.

Application Fee

An application fee of Rs.500/- is required to be paid by General/EWS/OBC/Kashmiri Migrants candidates and Rs.250/- by the candidates belonging to SC/ST/PwD categories. The application fee once paid will not be refunded. Payment of application can be done through online mode only using Net-banking, Visa Card/ Mastercard, Debit/Credit Cards and any bank or payment gateway service charges will have to be borne by the applicant.

Selection Procedure

The candidates will be selected based on the merit list prepared based on the following national examinations:
  1. KVPY: They must have appeared in any of the following exams and should have selected for the fellowship: KVPY-SA (2019), KVPY-SB (2020), KVPY-SX (2020), KVPY-SA(appeared in 2019) and SX (appeared in 2020).
  2. Fellows selected through the Empowerment Initiative for SC/ST candidates.
  3. IIT-JEE-Main: They must appear in 2021 and secure at least 60% for the General category, 54% for the EWS category, 54% for the OBC-NCL category and 30% for SC/ST/PwD category students.
  4. IIT-JEE-Advanced: They must appear in 2021 and secure at least 60% for the General category, 54% for the EWS category, 54% for the OBC-NCL category, and 30% for SC/ST/PwD category students.
  5. NEET-UG: They must appear in 2021 and secure at least 60% for the General category, 54% for the EWS category, 54% for the OBC-NCL category, and 30% for SC/ST/PwD category students.
