About GITAM

Gandhi Institute of Technology and Management(GITAM) is a private institute. It is a deemed-to-be-University under the UGC notification under section 3 of the UGC Act 1956. It is an ISO-certified deemed-to-be-university that has been accredited by NAAC with Grade 'A +' and approved by the AICTE. It offers undergraduate, graduate and PhD programmes in various disciplines. Financial Assistance

Eligible candidate will get a total emolument of Rs. 15000/- to 20,000/-per month for the full-time programme. Fellowship will be extended for the subsequent years based on the review of the progress of work. The research fellowship is Rs. 20,000/- per month for candidates with a valid score in NET / GATE / SLET and Rs. 15,000/- per month for other successful candidates.

Eligibility criteria

The candidates who wish to join the PhD course at GITAM should have a Post Graduate degree such as MA or MSc or B.Tech or M.Tech or any other equivalent degree from a recognised university with at least 55 percent marks or 5.5 CPI marks. Minimum eligibility criteria for different disciplines may vary, and the cut-off level may go higher for shortlisting the candidates. Relaxations to the SC/ST/PD candidates will be given as per the reservation policy of GoI.

How to apply

The candidates who want to join PhD degree programme at GITAM must visit the official website of GITAM and read the instructions carefully before applying. They can fill the application form by visiting an online application portal. Candidates have to submit an online application form at https://researchadmissions.gitam.edu by paying a non-refundable registration fee of Rs. 800/- (Rupees eight hundred only) through Debit card / Credit card (Master / VISA) / Net Banking / UPI. Candidates have to check the eligibility before making an application. Candidates have to upload copies of the following certificates along with the online application:
  1. Date of Birth (SSC / Matriculation or equivalent certificate)
  2. Graduate, Postgraduate / M.Phil. Marks statements, Degree, or Provisional
    certificate as applicable.
  3. NET / ICMR / GATE / GPAT / SLET etc. valid scores, if applicable
    Service certificate.
  4. " No objection" certificate from the present employer (for part-time candidates only).


Selection procedure

Admission of the candidates to the PhD programmes will be done based on their performance in the online written test conducted by Institute. The candidate who qualifies written test will be called for an interview. The candidates will be called for a written test or interview based on their academic records and other documents submitted with the application. The final selection of the candidates will be based on academic credentials, written test and/or interview.

Duration of the Programme

  1. PhD (Full time) programme shall be for a minimum of three years (two years for M.Phil. Degree holders) and a maximum of six years.
  2. PhD (part-time) programme shall be for a minimum of four years (three years for M.Phil. Degree holders) and a maximum of eight years.
  3. Part-time candidates are required to work for at least eight weeks (in one or more than one spell) each year including the period of course work in the concerned department.
  4. Women candidates and persons with disability (more than 40% disability) will be allowed a relaxation of one year for M.Phil. and two years for PhD in the maximum duration prescribed for the program. In addition, women candidates may be granted Maternity Leave / Child Care. Leave not exceeding 240 days, once in the entire duration of M.Phil. / Ph.D. (Full- time /Part-time) programme.


Course work

Coursework is mandatory for candidates who want to pursue a PhD programme. However, candidates having M.Phil. degree are exempted from coursework. Candidates are required to put in a minimum of 75% attendance per course to be eligible to appear for the examinations. The course work includes the following Courses :
Course: I Research Methodology
Course: II Advanced topics in the Area of Research
Course: III Comprehensive Viva-voce
Course: IV Research and Publication ethics
  1. Courses I and II shall have 40 contact hours each and course IV shall have 30 contact hours. And classes for Courses – I & IV shall be arranged by the Institute, and that of Course - II by the concerned Research Supervisor.
  2. Candidates have to qualify in the prescribed courses within 12 months from the date of registration.
  3. Candidates have to secure at least a "Pass (P)" grade in each course to be declared to have completed the course work.
  4. Unsuccessful candidates shall be provided only two more chances to complete the course work. If candidates could not complete the course work then may go for re-registration for PhD programme.
