Teaching careers in India through NCERT-CEE 2021 for B.Ed., M.Ed. RIE admissions


Want to become a teacher in India? You can pursue a graduate or post-graduate B.Ed. Degree at any campus of the Regional Institute of Education (RIEs) in India which are recognized official units of NCERT. For admission to the various programs, you need to appear for a Common Entrance Exam (CEE). Get details about NCERT CEE-2021, including the list of teacher education courses, the eligibility requirements for each, the online application procedure, etc.

The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT), New Delhi has issued the schedule of the online application process to gain admission into teacher education programs at the various Regional Institutes of Education (RIEs) through the Common Entrance Exam (CEE)-2021.

Overview

The RIE undergraduate and postgraduate teacher education courses provide in-depth training, ensuring that you become knowledgeable in pedagogy, acquire communication skills, and learn contemporary teaching methods. Before applying, you need to ensure that you possess a valid domicile certificate of the particular State where the RIE is located. There are scholarships offered for meritorious students and hostel accommodation is available at each campus for both boys and girls, details on which can be obtained from the respective institute's website (the complete list of RIEs is provided at the end of this article).

About NCERT CEE-2021

The question papers of the Common Entrance Exam-2021 will be available in both English and Hindi, other than the one for language proficiency. The exam will be of 120 minutes duration with 80 questions. There are three groups with separate question papers for each group, namely, (i) Group-A - B.Sc.B.Ed./ B.A.B.Ed./ M.Sc.B.Ed.; (ii) Group-B - B.Ed.; and (iii) Group-C - M.Ed. However, each Group will have the same areas of testing. There are 20 questions to test language proficiency in English, 30 questions to gauge teaching aptitude, and 30 questions to gauge reasoning ability. Each correct answer will be awarded two marks, while an incorrect answer will be given a negative marking of -0.5 marks, and an unanswered question will not be given any marks. RIE UG and PG courses Eligibility requirements

B.Ed. course

The two-year B.Ed. course qualifies you to teach upper primary children, students of classes 6 to 10, and, on acquiring a postgraduate qualification, you can also teach students of Classes 11 and 12.

Number of seats: (i) At RIE Ajmer and Bhubaneswar – both have 50 seats for the Science and Maths Group, as well as for the Social Science and Language Group; (ii) At RIE Bhopal - 40 seats for the Science and Maths Group, as well as for the Social Science and Language Group; (iii) At RIE Mysuru and at NERIE Shillong – both have 25 seats for the Science and Maths Group, as well as for the Social Science and Language Group.

Eligibility criteria: Minimum 50% either in the Bachelor's Degree exam and/or in the Master's Degree exam in Sciences. You can also apply with a minimum score of 50% marks in Bachelor's in Engineering or Technology with a specialization in Science or Maths or with a minimum score of 50% in Bachelor's Degree and/or in the Master's Degree in Social Sciences/Humanities are also eligible to apply. SC, ST, and PwD category candidates are given a relaxation of 5% marks.

B.A. B.Ed. course

This is a four-year program that combines general studies in both, Social Science, as well as Humanities along with professional studies of education. Theory and practicals are cohesively integrated. The curriculum allows you to take up one Language and two Social Science subjects, which is highly beneficial as you then have the career opportunity to be a Trained Graduate Teacher (TGT) in both Social Science as well as a Language teacher.

Number of seats: (i) At RIE Ajmer: 50; (ii) At Bhubaneswar: 50; (iii) At RIE Bhopal: 40; and (iv) At Mysuru: 40.

Eligibility criteria: You should have passed the +2/Higher Secondary/Senior Secondary or an equivalent exam in Science and Commerce streams or in a stream of Arts with a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate. SC, ST, and PwD category candidates are given a relaxation of 5% marks.

B.Sc. B.Ed. course

This four-year course will provide training in science and maths to provide a career opportunity to teach these subjects to upper primary and secondary school students.

Number of seats: (i) At RIE Ajmer, and RIE Bhubaneswar – both have 50 seats for the Physical Science Group (PCM) and 50 seats for the Biological Science Group (CBZ); (ii) At RIE Bhopal and RIE Mysuru – both have 40 seats for PCM and 40 seats for CBZ.

Eligibility criteria: (i) For the Physical Science Group (PCM), you should have passed the +2 level exam from a recognized Board with Physics, Chemistry, and Maths (Physics, Chemistry, and Statistics is also acceptable) with min. 50% marks in aggregate in the qualifying exam; (ii) For the Biological Science Group (CBZ), you should have passed the +2 level exam from a recognized Board with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology (Physics, Chemistry, and Biotechnology is also acceptable) with min. 50% marks in aggregate in the qualifying exam.



M.Ed. course

The two-year professional course allows you to opt for a specialization in either elementary education or in secondary and senior secondary education. The course is designed not only to give you a teaching opportunity but also opportunities in the administrative aspects of education, such as developing a curriculum, working on the analysis of an educational policy, taking up a higher-level administrative position of a school Principal, etc.

Number of seats: At RIE Ajmer, RI Bhubaneswar, RIE Bhopal, and RIE Mysuru – there are 30 seats at each of these institutes.

Eligibility criteria: You should have scored a minimum of 50% marks or an equivalent grade (there is 5% relaxation for SC, ST, and PwD candidate) in these courses from a recognized college or university or an institute that is recognized by affiliating universities: (i) B.Ed.; (ii) B.A.B.Ed./B.A.Ed/B.Sc.B.Ed/B.Sc.Ed.; (iii) B.El.Ed.; (iv) D.El.Ed. with a Bachelor's degree in Arts/Science (with 50% marks in each).

M.Sc.Ed. course

The six-year integrated course is taught over the span of 16 weeks for each of the two semesters in each year. The course aims to prepare you to become a professional at the senior secondary school level in the subjects of maths, physics, and chemistry.

Number of seats: You can get admission to this course only at RIE Mysuru, where there are 15 seats each for M.Sc.Ed. (Physics), M.Sc.Ed (Chemistry), and M.Sc.Ed (Mathematics).

Eligibility criteria: You should have passed the +2/Higher Secondary/ Senior Secondary or any equivalent exam of a recognized University/Board with minimum 50% marks in aggregate (relaxation of 5% marks for SC, ST, and PwD candidates) and have passed with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics (PCM) or Physics, Chemistry, and Statistics at the +2 level. Note that the qualifying exam should be recognized by the affiliating university of RIE Mysuru.

How to apply

Register your name with a valid email ID and mobile number at the CEE-2021 official website latest by 30th June 2021. Submit all the required information and double-check the details for errors as once you submit it, you will not be able to make any corrections. A recent colour photo is required to be uploaded. You also must pay the application fee of Rs.1000/- online through Net Banking or with a debit card or credit card (Rs. 500/- for SC, ST, and PwD candidates).

Important dates

Online registration and submission of applications will begin on 20th May 2021.
The last date for online registration and submission of applications is 30th June 2021.
The Admit Card can be downloaded from 10th July to 18th July 2021.
The Common Entrance Examination-2021 is scheduled for 18th July 2021.
The last date to submit the qualifying exam marks for those applying for the B.Sc.B.Ed. course, B.A.B.Ed. course, and M.Sc.B.Ed. course is 25th July 2021.
The last date to submit the qualifying exam marks for those applying for the B.Ed. course and for the M.Ed. course is 30th July 2021.
The CEE-2021 Result will be declared for the B.Sc.B.Ed. course, B.A.B.Ed. course, and M.Sc.B.Ed. course on 1st August 2021.
The CEE-2021 Result will be declared for the B.Ed. course and for the M.Ed. course on 5th August 2021.
