About Indian Maritime University (IMU)

Indian Maritime University (IMU) is a Central University established by the Government of India(GOI) under the act of the Parliament in 2008. The University has its headquarters in Chennai and its regional campuses at Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Visakhapatnam and Cochin. To apply for the B.Tech Marine Engineering course in IMU and its affiliated colleges, candidates should be within the age of 18-25 years and must hold a passport with a valid name as mentioned in the 10th standard board exam certificate. Only unmarried candidates can apply for this course and also they should clear their Physical Fitness Test as per the Directorate General of Shipping (DGS) Guidelines. Candidates should be medically fit with no color blindness, no hearing problems, eyesight up to (+ or -) 2.5 and a minimum height of 157 centimeters.

Along with fitness, to apply for the Marine Engineering course, candidates should also have completed their +2 board exam or any equivalent exam (must contain Physics, Chemistry, Maths and English as separate subjects) with a minimum of 60 % of marks. Coimbatore Marine College (CMC) is the first marine college in Coimbatore that was established in the year 2001. The college is approved by the Director General of Shipping, Govt. of India and ranked A1 Grade in CIP by the Indian Registry of Shipping.
