Indian Institute of Science Education and Research Thiruvananthapuram (IISER TVM) is a leading institute set up by the MHRD, Govt. of India. Institute has also got the status of Institute of National Importance. Currently, IISER TVM has announced another round of applications due to COVID 19. The session for PhD programs will start from August 2021 (Varsha 2021). Eligible and highly motivated candidates are welcomed to apply via the online portal of the institute.

Eligibility Requirements
School of Biological Sciences
The candidate must have a Master's degree in Biological Sciences or Chemical Sciences or Physical Sciences or Mathematics or Bioinformatics or Agricultural Sciences or Veterinary Sciences or a Bachelor Degree in Medicine (MBBS) and scored at least 60% marks or 7.5 CGPA on a 10-point scale.
They must have qualified for any one national level test such as CSIR-UGC or UGC-NET-JRF or GATE or any other equivalent exam. The scorecard must be valid as of August 01, 2021.
OR
The candidates who have a BS-MS or Master's degree from any of the IISERs or IITs or IISc with CGPA 8 or above on a 10-point scale are exempted from the national level eligibility test.
OR
The candidates with DBT-JRF(Category I) or ICMR-JRF or GATE or (EY for Ecology, Evolution, and Behaviour, XL or BT for Bioinformatics only) or JGEEBILS (GS-2021) are also eligible to apply.
School of Chemical Sciences
The candidate must have a Master's degree in Chemical Sciences and scored at least 60% marks or 7.5 CGPA in 10-point scale.
They must have qualified for any one national levels test such as CSIR-UGC or UGC-NET-JRF or GATE or any other equivalent exam. The scorecard must be valid as of August 01, 2021.
OR
The candidates who have a BS-MS or Master's degree from any of the IISERs or IITs or IISc with CGPA 8 or above on a 10-point scale are exempted from the national level eligibility test.
School of Mathematical Sciences
The candidate must have a Master's degree in Mathematics or Statistics or Engineering or relevant area of science and scored at least 60% marks or 7.5 CGPA in 10-point scale.
They must have qualified for any one national level test such as CSIR-UGC or UGC-NET-JRF or GATE or any other equivalent exam. The scorecard must be valid as of August 01, 2021.
OR
The candidates who have a BS-MS or Master's degree from any of the IISERs or IITs or IISc with CGPA 8 or above on a 10-point scale are exempted from the national level eligibility test.
School of Physical Sciences
The candidate must have a Master's degree in Physical Sciences/Material Science/ Engineering areas closely related to the research areas of School of Physics, IISER TVM and BE/B.Tech and scored at least 60% marks or 7.5 CGPA in a 10-point scale.
They must have qualified for any one national level test such as CSIR-UGC or UGC-NET-JRF or GATE or any other equivalent exam. The scorecard must be valid as of August 01, 2021.
OR
The candidates who have a BS-MS or Master's degree from any of the IISERs or IITs or IISc with CGPA 8 or above on a 10-point scale are exempted from the national level eligibility test.
Reservation Policy: Relaxation for reserved categories to the eligibility criteria will certainly be applicable according to Government of India rules.
Application Process
Admission seekers must visit the official website of IISER TVM and read the instructions carefully before applying. The application for PhD program of IISER TVM can be filled online using the online application portal. In the online application, the candidates must provide the correct information such as the Name/Affiliation/Contact number and Email addresses of two referees. Required supporting documents must also be uploaded additionally with the application form. After filling all the required details click on the "Submit" button to submit complete application. Only applications complete in all respects would be considered. Upon submission of the online application, the candidates will receive an acknowledgment e-mail containing a unique application number. As applications are being accepted online only hence, no need to send a hard copy of the application to IISER TVM. In case of any application-related queries, candidates may email their queries to the PhD coordinator at: phdprogramme@iisertvm.ac.in. No other mode of communication will be entertained.Application Fee
The candidates will have to submit an application fee along with the application form. The application fee will have to be paid online through 'SBICOLLECT' via net banking. Details of application fee to be paid are as follows:Selection Procedure
For the selection in PhD program in School of Biological Sciences, the candidates will have to prepare a short research proposal (limit:300-400 words), which must clearly address the following points:
The research proposal must be uploaded while applying online, under the section "Statement of Purpose". It is absolutely mandatory to submit a research proposal along with the application, otherwise, the application will not be considered. The research topic must be selected carefully because the evaluation of the candidate's scientific aptitude will be based on the research proposal submitted along with the application form. And this will be the major criterion for the shortlisting of candidates for the interview. After shortlisting, the candidates will have to appear in the interview which will be conducted online by IISER TVM. The online interviews will be conducted over 3 days in two rounds. The final selection of candidates will be based on the performance during the online interviews.
In School of Chemical Sciences, the selection of candidates will be based on interviews that will be conducted online in two rounds. Candidates will be shortlisted based on the marks in the qualifying examination.
The candidates who had applied for admission in School of Mathematical Sciences will be shortlisted based on the eligibility criteria and only shortlisted candidates will be called for online interviews. The final selection of the candidates will be based on the performance in the interview.
In the case of the candidates applying for the School of Physical Sciences, the final selection of the candidates will be based on the performance in online interviews. Only shortlisted candidates will be called to appear in the online interviews.
