One of the most sought-after institutes for learning music and dance, whether the basics or to upgrade to a professional level, is the Kathak Kendra, New Delhi. It is here, at the National Institute of Kathak Dance, that talent is nurtured and developed at a highly professional level of teaching and mentoring. Scholarships, stipends, and Freeships are available for students on enrollment. In the case of Advance courses, outstation students can avail of hostel accommodation or will be provided with house rent subsidy, details of which will be provided at the time of admission.

Admissions are now open for the music and dance programs for the academic session 2021-22. On selection to any of the programs, it is not permitted to take up part-time or full-time work, including programs and general activities other than those that are permitted with the prior permission of the Director of the institute. There is a minimum attendance requirement for all the courses. Fluency in English or Hindi is a requirement across all courses, and you need to have good fitness at both, the physical as well as mental levels. Other than the information given below about the eligibility criteria, you should go through the prospectus to know the relevant basic dance/music skills expected as per the course to which you are seeking admission.
Kathak Dance Courses
These are the Elementary Courses in Kathak Dance and the eligibility requirements-
The Foundation Course: This five-year course is ideal for youngsters who have got some kind of exposure to Kathak dance training. Eligibility: (i) Age should be 10 to 15 years as of 1st July 2021; (ii) Good communication skills with the ability to read and write in Hindi or English.
The Diploma (Pass) Course: This three-year course is for those who have at least a basic interest in any form of art, such as theatre or dance or music or visual arts, and the like. Eligibility: (i) Age should 15 to 20 years as of 1st July 2021; (ii) Completed the Foundation Course from Kathak Kendra or have an equivalent type of training.
These are the Advance courses in Kathak Dance and the eligibility requirements-
The Diploma (Hons.) Course: This is a three-year full-time course. Eligibility: (i) Age should be 18 to 23 years of age as of 1st July 2021; (ii) Completed the Diploma (Pass) course from Kathak Kendra or a similar type of training.
The Post-Diploma Course: This is a two-year course. Eligibility: (i) Age should be 20 to 26 years, as of 1st July 2021; (ii) Completed Diploma (Hons.) course from Kathak Kendra or have equivalent training.
The Refresher Course: This is a short-term course of six months. Eligibility: (i) Age should be below 40 years as of 1st July 2021; (ii) Completed the Diploma (Hons.) Course/Post Diploma Course from Kathak Kendra or have some equivalent type of training.
The Preparatory Course: This is a one-year course for those who are pursuing the Diploma programs. Eligibility: Age should be 18 to 23 years.
Music Advance Courses
The music courses offered by Kathak Kendra are of different durations, between one to five years. These are the courses and eligibility requirements-
The Tabla/Pakhawaj Certificate Course: This is a one-year course. Eligibility: Age should 14 to 17 years as of 1st July 2021.
The Tabla/Pakhawaj Diploma Course: This is a five-year music course. Eligibility: (i) Age should be 15 to 20 years as of 1st July 2021; (ii) Completed at least a one-year training certificate in Tabla/Pakhawaj.
The Special Course in Vocal Music: This is a three-year course. Eligibility: (i) Age should be between 18 to 30 years of age as of 1st July 2021; (ii) Should have a basic knowledge of vocal music. Online admission procedure for Kathak Kendra courses

Before doing so, it is advisable to check out the advertisement notification that is available in Hindi and English at the Kathak Kendra Delhi official website under the heading 'Academic Session 2021-22' and ensure that you fulfill all the eligibility requirements for the course for which you are keen to get admission. The application fee or admission of Rs.200/- should be paid only through NEFT mode.
