Pros and Cons of opening schools during this pandemic situation

In this article, I am discussing the pros and cons of opening schools today. The schools were shut down for more than 18 months. The students are able to study effectively, but yet the world is still exposed to environmental threats. So, we should be careful and follow the protocols as specified by the government.

Today, schools are reopened in most of the states of India and the students are going to schools regularly. The students were not able to study effectively at home as the online classes cannot develop the skills required to become successful in the future. So, offline education is essential for students. But many parents are still apprehensive to send their kids to school due to environmental threats.

Pros of opening schools

The students are able to study in a classroom along with the other students. They can easily interact with the teachers and clarify doubts. In a classroom, a teacher conducts tests, revision sessions and oral tests before the exam and the students are well-prepared for the examination. During the pandemic situation, when the schools conducted online classes, the teachers were not able to conduct such sessions. The teachers could not personally monitor the progress of every student. But today in the classroom, the teacher can access the progress of every student and also inform if the students are not studying. Apart from the regular subjects, the students are able to learn sports and games, singing, music, etc. In the morning, assembly sessions are conducted for the students, and then the students retreat to the classes. The students recite some holy prayers and chant some religious songs every morning along with the other students. Morning assembly sessions are conducted to inculcate discipline and social behavior. They learn to complete classwork assignments as early as possible and learn the value of time management.

Cons of opening Schools

We are still exposed to environmental problems and may become infected anytime. The primary students may not understand the rules of social distancing and hygiene. Many students are trying to remove masks every now and then as they feel suffocated. Some schools are not following the protocol as specified by the government and are not using the best mechanisms for sanitizing the classrooms. If the parents of the students are not well-educated, they do not even complain about the ill-arrangements. During the assembly sessions, many schools are crowded with students and teachers. Some schools are reluctant to follow social distancing rules and are conducting several activities in school to promote the goodwill of the school. The students may become infected by the new variant due to a lack of social distancing.

Conclusion

Every school should understand the importance of social distancing, hygiene, and masks. They should monitor the hygienic habits of the students and teach the students to use sanitizers in a safe way. The parents of every student should teach the value of hygiene and cleanliness to prevent such problems. Teachers, principals, and school authorities should be committed and should work towards the welfare of students. The school authorities, parents, and students should be united and not blame each other. Instead, they can implement some sanitizing and social distancing rules that are easier to follow. If the parents are apprehensive to send children to school, then they should personally interact with the school authorities and also inform the school management.
