The Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS) has released the admission notification for Class XI through lateral entry against vacant seats in Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNVs) for the academic session 2021-22. Interested students have to register and submit applications online up to 26th August 2021.

What is a JNV school?

A Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV) is a co-ed residential school that is affiliated to the CBSE Board with separate hostel accommodation for boys and girls. Computer training, sports, and co-curricular activities of NSS, NCC, etc are part of the academic year. If feasible, some of the students of Class 9 from a JNV in a Hindi-speaking area study for a year in another JNV in a non-Hindi-speaking region. Lessons are taught in the mother tongue or in the regional language where the JNV is located up to Class 8, and thereafter in English medium for Maths and Science subjects and in Hindi/English medium for Social Science subject.

The education is free up to Class 8, while students of Classes 9 to12 have to pay a nominal monthly fee of Rs.600/-. Students who are applying for admission from the category of Schedule Caste (SC) or Schedule Tribe (ST) or Below Poverty Line (BPL), as well as girls, do not have to pay this fee. In the case of students who are wards of Govt. employees, other than exempted categories as mentioned, they have to pay Rs.1500/- per month or the actual children's education allowance that is received by the parent per month, whichever is less.



Eligibility criteria

You should have studied in and passed Class X during the academic session 2020-2021 from a Government school or a Government-recognized school which is affiliated to CBSE or any other State Education/other recognized Board. The school should be in the same District/State where the JNV to which you are seeking admission is located.

With regard to the age requirement, the date of birth should be between 1st June 2003 and 31st May 2007, both days inclusive. This is applicable to all students, with no age relaxation for SC and ST students.

Admission of students will be made against available vacancies on the basis of marks secured in the Class 10 Board exam during the academic session 2020-21. Accordingly, the streams and subject combinations are allotted (details below).



JNV Class XI Streams and subject combinations

For Class XI students the streams are allotted as per the criteria set by the NVS, namely-

For Science with Maths combination: General and OBC candidates should have scored 57% in Maths and Science, and 62.50% Average of Science & Mathematics together as well as for average of all subjects (five subjects). In the case of SC and ST candidates, it is a minimum of 53% in Maths and Science, and 60% Average of Science & Mathematics together as well as for average of all subjects (five subjects).

For Science without Maths: General and OBC candidates should have scored 57% in Maths and Science, and 57% in average of Science & Mathematics together as well as for average of all subjects (five subjects). In the case of SC and ST candidates, it is a minimum of 53% in Maths and Science, and 52%% in an average of Science & Mathematics together, and 53% in average of all subjects (five subjects).

For Commerce with Maths combination: General and OBC candidates should have scored 57% in Maths and 50% in average of all subjects (five subjects). In the case of SC and ST candidates, it is a minimum of 53% in Maths and 50% in average of all subjects (five subjects).

For Commerce without Math: General and OBC candidates should have scored 50% in Maths and 50% in average of all subjects (five subjects). In the case of SC and ST candidates, it is a minimum of 48% in Maths and 50% in average of all subjects (five subjects).

There is an additional weightage for students who have participated in Games and Sports, NCC, Scout & Guide for admission to various streams, as shown in the image below-

After selection for admission

Once eligible students are put up on the merit list of the District, a common merit list will also be prepared at the State level. These lists are displayed at the JNV school's website and on the school's notice board. If you are selected, you will get intimation accordingly via SMS/Speed post. In case of further vacant seats, if students allotted the seats do not join, these will be filled up from the State level merit list. At the time of admission, the original relevant documents and certificates may be required for verification.

On selection, you are required to undergo a medical check-up by a qualified JNV Doctor. In case of any infectious disease or any serious illness, you will not get admission to the JNV.

How to apply

The registration and application has to be made online only at the official JNV admission website for Class XI vacant seats. You have to enter personal details, such as name, address, phone number, etc and the Class 10 marks. The following documents should be scanned and uploaded-
  1. Latest photo (the size should be between 10kb and 100kb)

  2. Signature (the size should be between 10kb and 100kb)

  3. Signature of the parent (the size should be between 10kb and 100kb)

  4. Mark sheet of Class 10 of the year 2020-21 (the size should be between 10kb and 100kb)
