WR Rail Kaushal Vikas Yojna Skill Development Training Programs in Trades 2021-22


Are you searching for a government training program for different trades at Western Railway workshops in Mumbai or Vadodara? This article provides complete information about the training programs for welders, electricians, fitters, and machinists scheduled by Western Railways to train youngsters at its training centers and workshops in Maharashtra and Gujarat. Western Railway (WR) has announced admissions open for short-term skill development training programs called 'Rail Kaushal Vikas Yojna' for youth for the year 2021-22 at four training centers in Maharashtra and Gujarat. This program is part of the Pradhanmantri Minister's Kaushal Vikas Yojna. Both male and female candidates can apply for the program online by 2nd September 2021. Note that you can apply for only one training center and for only one trade.

About the training program

The entire program is free of cost and there are no fees for any trade at any center. The duration is for three weeks and the training is imparted in various trades at four training centers during the day only, with a maximum of 30 trainees for a batch. You will not get any allowance during the training period and must make your own arrangements for travelling to and fro from the center, accommodation, and food. The centers will not provide boarding or lodging or meals. Once you are enrolled, you must have a minimum of 75% attendance and score a minimum of 55% in the written exam and 60% in the practical exam. On successfully completing the training program, you can apply for a job in the trade or start out independently on your own, but will not have any claim to employment in the Railways.



The training centers, and the type of trade offered at each one, are as mentioned below-

At Mumbai

You can get training in the following Trades at the Basic Training Centre (BTC) located at the Carriage Repair Workshop, Lower Parel, Mumbai, Maharashtra- Electrician, Fitter, Welder, Machinist.

Training schedule

First batch: 15th September 2021 to 6th October 2021, Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Second batch: 11th October 2021 to 1st November 2021, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

At Dahod

You can get training in the following Trades at the Basic Training Centre (BTC) located at the Rolling Stock Workshop, Dahod, Gujarat – Electrician, Fitter, Machinist & Welder.

Training schedule

First batch: 15th September 2021 to 6th October 2021, Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Second batch: 11th October 2021 to 1st November 2021, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

At Vadodara

You can get training in the following Trade at the Zonal Electrical Training Center (ZETC), Vadodara, Gujarat – Electrician Trade only.

Training schedule

First batch: 15th September 2021 to 6th October 2021, Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Second batch: 11th October 2021 to 1st November 2021, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

At Sabarmati

You can get training in the following Trade at the Engineering Workshop, Sabarmati, Gujarat – Welder Trade only.

Training schedule

First batch: 15th September 2021 to 6th October 2021, Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Second batch: 8th October 2021 to 29th October 2021, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.



Eligibility criteria

Age criteria: You should be between 18 to 35 years of age as of 2nd September 2021.

Education Qualification: You should have passed Matriculation (Class 10 exam). The final marks, calculating all the subjects will be considered, and not the best of five criteria.

Medical Fitness: It is necessary to be of sound physical and mental health. As supporting proof of this, you must submit a certificate of medical fitness at the time of verification of documents. This certificate should be from a registered M.B.B.S. doctor (refer to the list of documents mentioned below in the application procedure).

How to apply for Rail Kaushal Vikas Yojana

Before applying for the training program, you must go through all the Terms and Conditions, as well as other relevant details, that are mentioned in the official notification.

You have to submit your application online at WR Rail Kaushal Vikas Yojana website through the relevant link as per the training center where you wish to register for the training. Ensure that you have a valid email ID and mobile phone number when applying.

The closing date of applications is 2nd September 2021, 4 p.m.

Procedure after applying

The candidates will be shortlisted on the basis of the marks obtained in the Matriculation exam. In the case of CGPA in Class 10, it shall be equated in numbers, by multiplying with 9.5, as per CBSE norms.

If you are shortlisted, you will accordingly get intimation on the mobile number/email that you had provided in the application. When you are called for the document verification process, you must produce all the original educational qualification documents, as also self-attested photocopies of the same. The documents required are as follows-
  1. Educational Qualification proof: The mark sheet of Matriculation/Class 10.

  2. Age proof: Class 10 passing certificate, school leaving certificate, birth certificate.

  3. Identity proof: You can submit any one of these valid photo IDs – (i) Aadhar Card; (ii) Voter ID Card; (iii) Driving License.

  4. Certificate of Medical Fitness: The certificate from a qualified M.B.B.S. Doctor must clearly state that you are fit to undergo training in an industrial environment, that is, you are fit with respect to all aspects of visual/hearing/mental conditions, and also are not suffering from any communicable diseases.

  5. Affidavit: An affidavit on Rs.10/- non-judicial Stamp paper, duly notarized to Railways.
