The National School of Drama (NSD), New Delhi which is an autonomous institute under the aegis of the Ministry of Culture, Govt. of India has announced admissions open for the three-year Diploma Course in Dramatics for the academic session 2021-2024 which will tentatively begin in December 2021. Those who applied last year in February 2020 for the academic session of 2020-2023 and were shortlisted for admission to NSD do not need to apply again. The list of the shortlisted candidates has been put up at the official website of NSD. Generally, students are selected on the basis of a test/audition. However, due to the pandemic, there may be some changes so it is advisable to get updates from NSD about this. A monthly scholarship may also be offered. Foreign nationals who are keen to pursue this Diploma course should apply through the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) as required by Govt. norms.

NSD campus infrastructure and facilities

NSD Delhi has four auditoriums that are used exclusively as platforms for performing activities related to academic activities and the courses that are offered. Once enrolled for the Diploma Course in Dramatics, it is mandatory to stay in the campus hostel (check for updates on this requirement due to the current pandemic). The hostel rental fee is a nominal one and there is separate accommodation for boys and girls. You can opt to share a room or stay in a shared dormitory. The hostel also has a Mess facility.

The library at NSD Delhi is a very specialized one, devoted to theatre and drama. The learning modules

In the first semester of the first year of the course, you will learn the fundamentals of theatre acting and techniques and will get an insight into the history of theatre and its aesthetic aspects. The second year of the course with two semesters gives you the option of either specializing in acting or specializing in theatre techniques and design. Eligibility requirements

Academic Qualification: You must be a Graduate in any subject from a recognized University in India or abroad.

Theatre work: You should have participated in a minimum of six different theatre productions. As supporting proof of this, you will be required to submit any type of documentary evidence, such as a brochure or a leaflet, or a newspaper clipping, when applying for the course.

Language skills: You need to have reasonable knowledge of Hindi and English since instructions will be conveyed in these two languages.

References: You need to submit a recommendation letter from at least one Theatre expert.

Age criteria: At least 18 years of age and maximum up to 30 years. The age will be relaxed by five years for SC and ST students.
