How my PhD Supervisor is a role model for me

Teachers are assets to a student's life. They not only teach students but help in shaping the student's future. In this article. I am describing how my Ph.D. guide helped me in getting my academic degree.

Introduction

In early times, the Teacher is considered as God. So, this proverb is famous " GururBrahma GururVishnu GururDevo Maheshwaraha, Guru Saakshaat ParaBrahma Tasmai Sri Gurave NamahaGuru". Even today many people treat teachers as a God. Teachers not only help in getting academic qualifications as well as play a big role in our personality development. A responsible teacher is always conscious of the teaching field. The teachers always help their students in all possible manners. Some dedicated teachers teach students with full strength and energy. A teacher plays an important role in imparting knowledge, moral values and understanding modern-day challenges, and ways to overcome the challenges. No doubt, A good teacher is an asset for the student. Today, there are many options available on the path of a career and oftentimes, it is difficult for the student to choose their career in the right direction. In such a situation, experienced teachers help students in career counselling. Every year our country produces a lot of doctors, engineers, scientists and other professionals due to great teachers. So, it is said that if there were no teachers all, other professions would not exist.

My Ph.D. supervisor

After passing the Ph.D. entrance test, I was searching for a Ph.D. guide and came to know that not one teacher is available. I went to different teachers and all denied to accept me because of no vacancy. I roamed for months on the university campus in search of a Ph.D. guide. One day my Ph.D. guide called me in the university office and took full information. After that, okayed me and told me to write a synopsis.

I consider fortunate myself to have such a Ph.D. supervisor who played a role as a guide as well as a guardian in my life. My Ph.D. guide was an honest and genuine person. He received his education from JNU University. He was a highly educated person that's why a lot of people used to come to him to take help. Often, he was invited by people as a chief guest. He knew how to handle situations in a peaceful way. He used to solve big issues related to university problems. He helped me a lot in getting my academic degree. Generally, what I noticed was that a Ph.D. supervisor often uses the students and gets household work done. But, my Ph.D. guide never told his student to do any work which was related to him. He used to help his student with full dedication.

I remember that moment how he helped me at the time of my Ph.D. thesis submission. For thesis submission, candidates have to fulfill many formalities. That is a lengthy process. I was finding it difficult because at that time I was not residing in the same city. With the help of the guide, I submitted my thesis. After that, he also worked hard for keeping the Ph.D. viva date. Generally, Ph.D. viva-voce is conducted after 8 months of thesis submission. But, he tried to keep the viva date within three months of thesis submission, as he knew that it was very difficult for me to do up and down from north India to south India because at that time I had a small baby. So, he met the Vice-chancellor of the university and all concerned authorities. While arranging all this, he had to face many challenges, and sometimes, he had heated arguments with academic staff. When my supervisor was struggling for my degree at that time I was not in that city. By chance, my supervisor informed me to come for viva-voce.

When I reached the university then my student fellow narrated the whole story. When I asked directly a guide about difficulties then he replied that it was my responsibility. After listening to this, all present students got emotional and paid a salute to him. A large number of students received degrees under the guidance of my mentor. All applauded his dedicating nature. Thus, everything became possible due to my Ph.D. guide. So, today I would like to pay special gratitude to him for getting this degree. I was in touch with him for many years after getting my degree. Afterward, he shifted to his native place after retirement. Then onwards I got disconnected. But, today where he would be residing, I pay respect to him with the core of my heart.

Conclusion

I have interacted with many teachers in my academic life. But, it is a matter of good fortune to have such a teacher who guided me in the path of my career. Many students were inspired by his knowledge and attitude. Indeed he was one of the great teachers. I would be grateful forever to him.
