Watchfulness of the Principal Sister made me an alert person

The standard of a school depends upon its Principal's contribution. Teachers can be good or bad, but the Principal has to be good to make a school extraordinary. The essay given below discusses the good qualities of a School Principal.

Introduction

Being a student of a Missionary school, I came across a nun Principal. It is a must to have someone at the helm who could guide each school member from teachers, students to support staff in the right direction. A school is a place where the students of any class remain very naive. Proper academic shaping is a must, as well as the thought process should be widened, and teaching moral values becomes a priority. In this regard, a school Principal must set an example for everyone in the school and, my Sister Principal exactly did the same.

Why watchfulness drew my attention

The Principal sister was very aware of everything around her even she knew most of the students from sixth to the tenth standard by their names which were incredible. Knowing almost all the students by name is possible for the teachers who remain in touch with the students regularly, but when the Principal Sister knowing the students by name reflects her quality of watchfulness. Although strict, she was sweet-natured and had a broad smile on her face constantly. The Principal Sister hardly rebuked anyone roughly. Her strictness was sometimes very dignified and, at times, witty. I loved her manner of tackling the students individually and how she kept track of the responsibilities of the School Cabinet members. In my school, the Principal Sister made a new rule that a particular student of the class tenth must ring the bell after each period. I received the responsibility along with being a House Captain. I used to wear a watch and so made to take up the bell ringing responsibility. The bell-ringing episode for a year made me think differently, as well as learnt to be watchful.

How did I become watchful?

Every student loved our Principal Sister for her strong personality and was impressed by her watchfulness. She proved that school needs to become a second home for the students who spend a lot of time away from their own homes. In our residences, the parents and other members remain watchful so that no one faces any trouble. The family members stand as protectors, and they always teach good things in life. The same was the attitude of the Principal Sister, who brought in some trivial changes but impacted the students very strongly, and I was not an exception.

The Principal, who knew almost every student by their name, gave the students the feel of a home. When I started ringing the bell, I had to go to the Principal Sister's room and ring the electronic bell or the handbell. Whenever I entered her room, she used to see her watch, and by any means, if I were a bit early or late, she would invariably point it out. She never hesitated in appreciating me for being on time. Sister's approach made me very particular about my duty. She never scolded but made me learn through her watchfulness that one must exercise responsibilities on time.

I also learnt that with age, one must be ready to take up various responsibilities. No job is small and nor it's for a particular category of people such as ringing the school bell after every period is not the job of the school peon. My whole perspective towards life changed, and now in my fifties, I teach the same to my young ones. I am careful and watchful about all the nitty-gritty of the family members, especially the young ones and elderly. I remain alert about the dates regarding form fill-ups or medical check-ups, and so on so that they never miss it. In this way, I try to make them aware of their duties. Though staying in Delhi, I keep track of my family members settled in a different city. I love to take up responsibilities because Sister Principal's watchful attitude taught me to follow the right direction in life and remain alert always.

Conclusion

A point to be noted here about the Principal Sister which no one should ignore. Usually, the Head of the school remains concerned about the administrative side, but the Principal Sister was particular about the overall development of the students. She addressed the everyday Assembly with interesting snippets, which were also lessons for the students. Made students read a few short pieces of news from the newspaper of the same day according to the turn of each class. She helped students prepare for the outer world, and that was another feather to her watchfulness. I am glad that I was blessed to have such a Principal Sister whose approach towards making the students taught me to prepare my youngsters by being watchful and not condemning.

The principal of an educational institute should always concentrate on the overall development of the school. They should take care of academic issues as well as administrative aspects of the institute. During my school days generally, all schools were having headmasters only, but not principals. The head of the college was called the Principal. But later even the head of the schools are also being called Principals.
Our principal in our junior college was a very strict teacher. He used to give utmost importance to discipline in the school. He used to tell the importance of discipline during morning prayers and he used to makes round throughout the day as per his timings. Once he was there on a round, no student used to dare to get out of the class. He is a mathematics lecturer earlier and he used to teach mathematics when he has some free time. He was a very good teacher and used to explain the methods of solving the problems very neatly,
