Science Academies Summer Research Fellowship Program 2022 for Students and Teachers

About SRFP

The three national Science Academies Indian Academy of Sciences, Bengaluru; the Indian National Science Academy, New Delhi and the National Academy of Sciences, India Prayagraj offers Summer Research Fellowships for Students and Teachers. The summer fellowship program is of two months' duration. The main aim of this program is to enable Indian students/teachers to work with eminent scientists. The selected candidate will work with the assigned guide for two months.

Benefits to the Selected Students/Teachers

The students/teachers who will be selected for SRFP will receive the monthly fellowship. They will also be provided appropriate round trip train fare.

Eligibility criteria

The fellowship programme is open to all eligible students and teachers of all universities and colleges affiliated with UGC/AICTE/MCI Accredited Institutions of State Universities/Private Universities. Students and teachers must fulfil the following eligibility for SRFP:

Students: The students, who are desirous to join the Summer Research Fellowship Program at any of the academies mentioned-above, must be studying in any of the following courses:

  • Pharm.D. (III, IV years only)
  • B.S. / B.Sc./ B.V.Sc. (II year only)
  • B.Pharm. (III and IV years only)
  • B.E. / B.Tech. / B.C.A. (II and III years only)
  • B.Arch.(II, III and IV years only)
  • B.Tech.- M.Tech.-Dual degree course (II, III, IV years only)
  • B.E. – M.Sc.-Dual degree course (II, III, IV years only)
  • B.S. –M.S.-Dual degree course (II, III, IV years only)
  • M.Sc.Tech. (I, II years only)
  • M.S. / M.Sc. / M.V.Sc. / M.Pharm. (I year only)
  • M.E. / M.Tech. / M.C.A./ M.Arch. (I year only)
  • M.S. / M.Sc. /M.Tech. / MBBS-5-year integrated course (II, III, IV years only)
  • Integrated Ph.D. (I, II years only)

Teachers: Teachers who wish to join SRPF must fulfil the following eligibility conditions:
They must be teaching in any College or University.

The student applicants must possess a minimum percentage of 65% in core subjects only from X std. up to post-graduation. The minimum percentage of marks does not apply to teachers applicants.

Application Procedure

The students and teachers wishing to join SRFP 2022 must visit the official website of the three Academies Indian Academy of Sciences, Bengaluru, Indian National Science Academy, New Delhi, and The National Academy of Sciences, India Prayagraj. To apply for SRFP, the candidates should fill and submit the application form online in the prescribed format available on the official websites. To get registered themselves, the applicants need to register through the link available on the official website (registration link also provided at the end of this article). First, the candidate needs to select whether he/she is a student or teacher. Then one of the broad interest areas is to be selected from Chemistry, Life Sciences, Physics, Mathematics, Engineering, including Computer Sciences and Earth & Planetary Sciences. On the next page, Subareas of the subject is to be selected. After clicking on the "next" an application form will open. On this page, the applicants need to fill the personal details such as First Name, Last Name, Gender, Date of Birth, Email, Category (SC/ST/ General), Mobile no., Correspondence address, City, State, Pin code etc. Academic details starting from SSLC or Class X up to higher education are to be filled. Details of the current study and current institute are also to be provided. Candidates will have to furnish details of training or fellowships previously taken. A "project proposal" is to be prepared by the candidates.

Project Proposal: The candidates will have to prepare a brief write-up in about 150-250 words on their specific area of research interest and he/she should mention the objectives of the research proposal. The applicant must mention what he/she would like to learn and achieve through this fellowship. In the project proposal, a specific experiment or theory that is to be conducted/applied by the applicant is to be included. This must be specific and not a general description of the area. All-in-all, the following points must be covered in the project proposal.
  • What is the broad question in Subject that the project proposal aims to address?
  • Explain why you consider the proposal important.
  • What are the requirements in terms of materials and facilities?

Some important things need to be remembered while preparing a write-up. It should be prepared by the applicants themselves and not to copy and paste from anywhere. Special/scientific characters such as Ø Ü etc... are not to be used in the project proposal because the software does not accept it and will create a problem while uploading the application with such characters.
Important to mention that the brief write is not to be uploaded on the portal. Instead, there will be a box wherein a write-up of a maximum of 250 words will have to be pasted by the applicants.

Documents to be uploaded

The candidates (both students and teachers) will have to upload the following documents:
  • Scanned copies of mark sheets from class X till the last examination (Format: JPEG, File size: max. 700 kb)
  • Publications, if any (in case of teacher's applicants)
  • Student applicants will have to mention the email id of one of their teachers familiar with their work for obtaining a recommendation letter from them in the prescribed format.
  • An authorization letter. On selection, they will have to provide an authorization letter from the Principal/HoD mentioning the grant of necessary permission/leave of absence. It should be sent by post to the following address:

After uploading all the required documents and submission of the online application, a registration number will be assigned. The candidates must note this registration number carefully must be quoted in all future correspondence.

Important Points

  • Please note that all the mandatory fields marked with an asterisk (*) are to be filled.
  • One candidate can submit one application.

Intimation of Selection

The candidates who will be selected for SRFP shall be informed about their selection along with the concurrence of the guide (scientist/faculty approved by the Academies as Supervisor/Guide). Information of selection will be dispatched by February–March 2022.
