Geo-Information Science and Technology is the science of acquisition, management, analysis, and then utilisation of that information which is spatially referenced to locations on, above, and below the surface of the earth. GIS (Geo-Information Science) is related and used in many areas of studies and research like Geography, Landscape Architecture, Computer Science, Statistics, Engineering, Database enrichment etc and is a vital link to so many research works. Nowadays aerial surveys and satellites are used for so many surveys and data acquisition which also form a part of the GIS system. GIS information is used by the Govt also in many crucial observations related to geographical boundaries and other such concerns. Keeping these things in mind it makes sense for the eligible candidates to apply for admission in this diploma.

After doing a diploma in Geo-Information Science and Technology, one can try for job positions like GIS Executive, Remote Sensing Tech Lead, Project Fellow/Project Assistant, Research Associate, GIS Software Analyst, GIS specialist etc. There are many organisations and offices where the requirements of GIS persons are raised from time to time. Some of these organisations/departments are - Central Ground Water Board, All India Soil and Land Use Survey, Defence Terrain Research Laboratory, Geological Survey of India, Atomic Mineral Division, Indian Space Research Organisation, National Spatial Data Infrastructure, Indian Institute of Remote Sensing, Forest Survey of India, Survey of India, Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Environment, National Informatics Centre, North Eastern Space Applications Center, Indian Agricultural Research Institute, Agricultural Department and Irrigation Department, Meteorological Department, Mining, Soil Conservation, Land Degradation, and Ground Water Management, Natural Resource Management, Space Application Centers and Aviation, and Watershed and Wetland Management.
