How to decide on the institute

Students may have their own set of criteria while deciding the institute best for them, including-
  • On the basis of fees: The three colleges here are charging more or less the same amount as the course fee. The other charges are with respect to the facilities being provided like transport, hostel, etc that may vary.
  • Eligibility criteria: The eligibility criteria in BJB Autonomous College is much relaxed when compared to the other institutes. Further, there are also no entrance tests being mentioned in this college website.
  • Facilities and infrastructure: Though all the three have the basic infrastructure for the course, BJB Autonomous College, being the oldest has better infrastructure and facilities for the students like library, conference halls, computer labs, etc.
  • Faculties: Here also, BJB Autonomous College will score better than the rest as it is one of the oldest colleges in the city.
  • Importance to the course: NIIS Institute of Information Sciences and Management weighs heavier in this respect when compared to the other two colleges. IMS was established mostly for building up professionals in the field of journalism. BJB Autonomous College, though established long back, started the PMIR department quite recently, in the academic session 2012-12. Moreover, it is also having many courses and streams to take care of. So course-specific importance may not be visible.
  • Overall personality development: The Soft Skills lab in NIIS Institute of Information Sciences and Management grooms the personality of the students. This not only develops the analytical and decision-making skills of the students, but it also enhances their communication skills and builds confidence in them.
  • Industry interaction/ field visits/campus placements: While the summer internships and MDPs are part of the curriculum, the institutes also have special industry interactions by way of guest lectures by people from the industries. The on-campus placements in IMS are mostly for journalism and mass communication as the institute specializes in it. NIIS Institute of Information Sciences and Management scores well in terms of interaction and field visits as it organizes frequent industry visits for the students other than the regular internships programs. But the placement cell of BJB Autonomous College tops as many reputed companies visit the campus for various streams.

Conclusion

While other things seem to be mostly similar, the one thing that makes the NIIS Institute of Information Sciences and Management different from the remaining two is the Soft Skills lab. This allows the students to develop their personalities while learning the technicalities of the course. This would definitely help them in adjusting to the workplace later and take a major decision, both personally and professionally.
