TATA Innovation Fellowship 2021-22 for Life Sciences Students

Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science & Technology, Govt. of India instituted a "TATA Innovation Fellowship" scheme for students of Biological Sciences/Life Sciences/Biotechnology. The fellowship is given in the area of life sciences and biotechnology for finding innovative solutions to a major problem in various areas of science, agriculture, environment, and healthcare. Currently, the Department of Biotechnology has opened the TATA Innovation Fellowship Scheme for 2021-22. Eligible students are welcome to apply.
Details of Fellowship
Number of TIF: 05 number of fellowships per year
Duration of the fellowship: Initially duration of the TATA Innovation Fellowship will be 03 years but it may extend for 2 more years on fresh appraisal.
Amount of Fellowship: The candidates who will be selected for TIF will receive a monthly fellowship grant of Rs.25,000/-. This will be in addition to their regular salary from the host institution. Apart from the monthly fellowship, each fellow will be paid Rs. 6 lakhs annually as a contingency grant. The contingency grant can be spent to meet the expenses on consumables, equipment, manpower requirement, travels including both international and domestic, and other expenditures that occurred during the research project.
However, a contingency research grant will be paid only if the fellowship awardee is already getting a salary from an international organization.Eligibility Criteria
Nationality: Indian nationals are eligible to apply for this fellowship scheme.
Age Criteria: The candidates applying for the TIF must not cross the age of 55 years on the closing date of the application. The fellowship is a co-terminus with the superannuation of a fellow in his/her organization.
Educational Qualification: The applicant should possess a Ph.D. degree in Life Sciences, Agriculture, Veterinary Science or a Master's degree in Medical Sciences, Engineering or an equivalent degree in Biotechnology/ related areas. The applicant must have outstanding contributions and publications in the specific area.
Other Requirements
Note: A candidate can avail the benefit of only one fellowship at a time. In case, he/she is receiving another grant/fellowship. He/she will have to opt for anyone only.Application Procedure
The candidates who wish to apply for TATA Innovation Fellowship-2021-22, must visit the official website of the Department of Biotechnology (DBT) and read the instructions carefully before applying. The application must be applied online in the prescribed format available on the DBT ePromis portal. Further, a hard copy of the application is to be sent to the Department of Biotechnology. The hard copy must be duly forwarded y the competent authority of the host Institute. It must reach the following address:
