All selected candidates will receive fellowship either an Institute fellowship of Rs. 31,000/- per month or fellowship as per the norms of the funding agency.

Eligibility Criteria
Age: Applicant's age should not exceed more than 28 years at the time of joining. Age relaxation of 3 years will be given for OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) and 5 years for SC/ST/PD/Female applicants.
Educational Qualification:
The candidates are from biological science backgrounds and wish to join Ph.D.Must have M.S. or M.Sc. or M.Tech. or M.Pharm. or M.B.B.S. or any equivalent degree in any discipline of Science/Medicine/Pharmacy /Engineering/ Technology. They must have obtained at least 60% marks or CGPA/CPI of 7.0 on a 10 point scale.
In the transcript/grade sheet issued by the Institute/University reports, only marks, the percentage will be considered. CGPA /CPI will be calculated as per the following formula: CGPA/CPI in a 10 point scale = (CGPA/CPI Obtained×10)/PS PS = Point scale used by the Institute/University
In the case of B.Tech. or M.B.B.S. or M.C.A. candidates who are remarkably brilliant are also eligible to apply for Ph.D. programme in Biological Sciences.
In addition to this, the candidate should have qualified a National level examination such as NET/GATE/UGC-JRF/CSIR-JRF/NBHM/DBT (JRF A category)/ICMR (JRF category I)/NET-LS/INSPIRE-PhD/JGEEBILS/JEST/Rajiv Gandhi Fellowship or any other equivalents fellowship exam. The candidates must have a valid certificate/ fellowship while applying for admission. OR BS-MS Dual Degree graduates of IISERs and B.Tech. graduates of IITs with CPI >=8.
Students whose results for fellowship exams such as CSIR-UGC NET Fellowship or ICMR-JRF Category-I or DBT-JRF or INSPIRE-PhD etc. are awaited may also apply. They must mention their fellowship exam roll number(s) in the application. Such candidates may attend the interview after submitting the proof of qualified fellowship examination before the interview date. Such candidates will not receive any call letter for the interview from the department. Hence, they are suggested to write to the head of the department, on their email ID with a CC to caa@iiserbpr.ac.in and inform if they will attend the interview.

The candidates who are appearing in the qualifying degree program final year examinations are also eligible to apply for Ph.D. program. But their admission will be conditional. They will have to submit the proof of the qualifying degree before December 2021.
For SC/ST/PD categories candidates, there will be given a relaxation of 5% marks or an equivalent grade.
Mere fulfilling the eligibility criterion does not entitle a candidate to be called for the test and interview.
How to Apply
To apply for the Ph.D. program, the candidate will have to apply through an online application form available at the official website of IISER Berhampur. The online application is to be filled by following a two-step process. In Step-1, the candidates need to register themselves on the Institute online application portal and then validate their email addresses. For registration, the candidate must fill-up the details such as name, email, discipline (Biological/Chemical/Physical/ Mathematical), and the captcha in the online registration form. After filling and submitting the form, the candidates will receive a confirmation on their registered email ID which needs to be validated. Upon successful validation, registration on the portal will be completed. Now the candidates can re-login the portal to fill the application form using an email ID and password (created at the time of registration). In Step-2 the application form is to be filled. After filling in all the relevant information in the online application form the application must be submitted.
Selection Procedure
The candidate will be selected based on the interviews. Only shortlisted candidates will be called for an interview. For shortlisting of the candidates, departments will consider additional criteria such as academic performance and/or the performance in the National Level Tests, etc. Selected candidates will be intimated about the interview schedule through email. Apart from this, the schedule of the interview will be updated on the institute's website. The candidates should check the institute's website regularly. For attending the interview, the SC/ST candidates will be provided with a travel allowance (TA) as per the GoI norms. Travel and stay arrangements for attending the interview are to be made by the General category candidates.
