About University College Dublin (UCD)
University College Dublin (UCD) is a public university and it was originally known as the Catholic University of Ireland when it was established in 1854. The name later changed to Royal University, and in 1908 it eventually changed to University College Dublin. The UCD made important contributions to the growth of modern Ireland.
University College Dublin is now situated in Belfield, some four kilometres south of Dublin, and preserves the Dublin appellation from its history of various campuses across the city.
