The Services Preparatory Institute (SPI), Aurangabad has released the notification for the entrance test for admission to the next training batch that will start next year. SPI, which was established by the State Govt. of Maharashtra for training boys to prepare for the National Defence Academy (NDA) as well as other Defence Academies, is under the aegis of the State Govt.'s General Administration Department. The Services Preparatory Institute (SPI), Aurangabad provides training for the UPSC (NDA) written entrance exam and Services Selection Board (SSB) interviews as well. The 10-acre campus has residential hostels for the cadets, and sports facilities for basketball, football, hockey, volleyball, boxing, etc in addition to athletic tracks and obstacle courses. The library is well-stocked with textbooks on military history, general history, biographies, fiction, UPSC guides, etc. Other infrastructure includes a Mess and dining hall, an auditorium, a medical room, a gym, etc.
On the academic front, students follow the Science stream curriculum of local educational institutes in Aurangabad and must maintain a minimum score of 60% in all SPI exams as well as in the college exams. If they fail to do so, then they may be asked to leave SPI. Coaching for UPSC is provided by expert faculty before/after the regular hours of college. They are also provided extra coaching for the Class 12th exam so that they can score high marks and gain admission to the Technical Entry Scheme (10 + 2) of the India Army/Indian Navy. Services Preparatory Institute Eligibility requirements
To be eligible for the written test for admission to SPI, you must be a domicile of Maharashtra and an unmarried male. The date of birth should be as per the requirement for the year of admission. For the upcoming course, the date of birth should be between 2nd January 2006 and 31st December 2007, both days included. Educational Qualifications
You should be studying in Class 10 of the State Board or equivalent Board in March/April/May 2022 with English, Physics, Chemistry (or General Science), and Maths subjects. You must secure a minimum of 60 % marks in the Class 10th exam, and a minimum of 60% marks in the Class 7th, 8th, and 9th exams as well, and be eligible for admission to Class XI in June 2022.Physical Fitness
You must be fit to join the Armed Forces as per the norms of UPSC for NDA/INA entry. The physical standards for admission to SPI are as follows-
Height & Weight: The Height should be 157 cm. and above, and the Weight should be min. 43kgs.
Chest measurements: Without expansion- minimum 74 cm, and with Expansion on inhaling- minimum 5 cm.
Vision: You should have good binocular vision and colour vision standards as per CP-III norms for the Indian Army, with the ability to recognize red and green colours and having no colour blindness at all. Eyesight should be 6/6 in a distant vision chart with the better eye and 6/9 in the weaker eye. Myopia should be less than 2.5D and hypermetropia less than 3.5D including Astigmatism.

Services Preparatory Institute Written Exam Format The question paper for the written exam is in English for three hours with Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) in two sections- (i) Mathematics, which is of 75 marks and (ii) General Ability Test (GAT), which is of 75 marks. A correct answer will be awarded one mark, while a wrong answer will get a deduction of 0.5 marks.
GAT will have questions on (i) General English, (ii) General Science, (iii) Social Science, (iv) GK, (v) Current Affairs, and (vi) Intelligence test questions. The General English part will include approx. 25 questions related to grammar, comprehension, synonyms, antonyms, etc. All questions will be based on the current syllabus of the State Board or the CBSE for Class 8 to Class 10. The GK and Current Affairs sections will have very basic questions that any student of Class 10 should know about.

The interviews to be conducted in English will either be in person or conducted online. It includes gauging General Intelligence and awareness of current affairs, and a Personality Test. All questions put to the candidate during the interview should be answered in English. At the time of the interview, it is required to bring original copies of all the annual exam results of Classes 7th, 8th, 9th, and 10th (if already passed), along with certificates of other achievements, if any. You will get the password via SMS on that number. Log in with the user ID and password, and pay the application fee of Rs.450/- (this is non-refundable) with a debit card or a credit card or via Net banking (no other mode of payment is acceptable).
