The Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and Environment (KSCSTE), Government of Kerala has invited applications from enthusiastic and passionate eligible students possessing requisite qualifications for KSCSTE Fellowship Examination 2021-2022.

Details of KSCSTE Fellowship

Available Streams

Number of Fellowships<

The total number of fellowships for 2021 in different subjects is 40. The number of fellowships may be changed later depending on the availability of the fund. The KSCSTE has the right to change the number of fellowships. Subject-wise fellowships numbers are as follows:
  • Chemical Sciences: 07
  • Earth, Atmospheric, Ocean and Planetary Sciences: 03
  • Engineering Sciences: 02
  • Environmental Sciences: 03
  • Life Sciences: 14
  • Mathematical Sciences: 04
  • Physical Sciences: 07

Benefits to the Fellows

Fellowship Amount: Fellowship grant under KSCSTE Fellowship Scheme is as follows:
  • JRF: Rs.31,000/- pm (For first two years)
  • SRF: Rs.35,000/- pm (from third year onwards)
  • Annual Contingency: Rs.20,000/-

Fellowship Duration: Fellowship period is limited to three years.

Hostel Facility: Selected fellows will be provided with hostel accommodation subject to availability. House rent allowance is provided to the students @ 10% of their fellowship. However, students who will not be avail of the hostel facility provided by the university/institute will not be eligible for HRA.

Eligibility Criteria

Age limit: Upper age limit to join the KSCSTE research fellowship scheme is 35 years (as of the 1st Dec 2021).

Educational Criteria
  1. Candidates must have a post-graduation degree. Those who have completed a post-graduate degree in or after the year 2018 are eligible to apply only.
  2. The candidates belonging to General (UR)/General-EWS and OBC candidates must have a minimum of 70% marks or equivalent CGPA. While SC/ST and PwD candidates must have at least 65% marks or equivalent CGPA.
  3. Only candidates who have obtained their qualifying degree from any of the Universities in Kerala are eligible.

Examination Pattern

There will be two papers in the KSCSTE fellowship entrance examination.
  • Total Marks: 90
  • Part A: General Aptitude Test (20 Marks)
  • Part B: Subject (50 Marks).
  • PG mark contribution: 20 % of PG mark.
There will be no negative mark.
There will be a 5% reduction in cut-off marks for reservation candidates (SC/ST, persons with disabilities).

Application Fee

The candidates will have to pay an application fee of Rs.750/-. However, the candidates belonging to SC/ST and Persons with disabilities categories are exempted from paying the application fee. The application fee is non–refundable and will not be refunded in any circumstance even if the application is rejected or withdrawn by the candidate or non-attendance of the examination.

Examination Centres

The exam will be conducted at three centres across Kerala:
  1. Thiruvananthapuram
  2. Kochi
  3. Kozhikode

How to Apply

The candidates who wish to apply for the fellowship scheme of KSCSTE must visit the official website of KSCSTE and read the official notification carefully before applying. The candidates must apply online through the online application submission window as only online submissions will be entertained.

Documents to be uploaded

Following documents are to be uploaded. All these documents must be scanned and made handy for uploading while submitting an online application. The total size of all the documents must not exceed 5 MB.
  1. A recent photo-passport size(File Format: JPG, Image size: Not exceed 50KB, Image Dimension: 150W X 200H px )
  2. Signature (File Format: JPG, Image size: Not exceed 30KB, Image Dimension: 150W X 100H px )
  3. Mark sheets of M.Sc./M.Tech.
  4. Certificate of M.Sc./ M.Tech.(Provisional certificate in case of 2019 pass out applicants)
  5. Age/DOB Proof i.e. 10th certificate/Birth certificate
  6. Caste or Community Certificate, in case of SC/ST candidates only
  7. Medical Certificate, in case of Differently abled candidates. It must be countersigned by the Medical Superintendent/ CMO/ Head of the Hospital.

Examination Registration Fee

An examination fee of Rs.750/- is to be paid online through SBI Collect by General (UR)/General-EWS and OBC candidates. However, the candidates belong to SC/ST Category and Differently-abled candidates are exempted from the registration fee. The online Payment Button will be activated after 24 hours of the initial registration.
