Introduction
The National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) has been set up at the national level to cater education to young people who want to excel in this field. NIFT has set up 17 centers across the country to spread this technology among a large number of interested students spread across the country. All these courses are offered in UG and PG programs. The UG courses are four years duration and PG programs are two years duration. There are 6 types of UG courses are available in NIFT- Accessory Design, Knitwear Design, Fashion Communication, Leather Design, Fashion Design, Textile Design. The PG courses are available in Design, Fashion, Management, and Technology. General Ability Test (GAT) is conducted for admission of students to Bachelor of Design and Master of Design courses. The duration of the exam is 2 hours. The question paper will be in English/Hindi medium. The question paper is different for each course.
The Bachelor of Design exam has a total of hundred questions. Each question carries one mark. No negative marks for wrong answers. The question paper includes 20 questions from Quantitative ability, 25 from Communicative ability, 25 questions from English Comprehension, 15 questions from Analytical Ability, and 15 questions from General Knowledge, and Current Affairs.
The General Ability Test (GAT) was conducted for Bachelor of Fashion Technology, Master of Fashion Technology, and Master of Fashion Management courses. There will be a total of 150 questions and the exam duration is 3 hours. Bachelor of Fashion Technology includes 30 questions from Quantitative Ability, 45 questions from Communication Ability and English Comprehension, 25 from Analytical and Logical Ability, 25 questions from General Knowledge and Current Affairs, and 25 marks for Case Study.Exam Pattern
Quantitative Ability
In this category, questions are asked on additions, multiplications, divisions, percentages, fractions, interest rates, working-time, distance-speed, ratio, average, etc. For this candidates have to prepare from High School Maths.General Knowledge and Current Affairs
For GK, candidates have to be thorough with an understanding of society and environment, and the latest developments in the day-to-day world. To excel in this one has to go through the latest Magazines and daily newspapers. Questions are mainly asked on current topics.Case Study
It is based on topic of Fashion industry. The candidate's managerial expertise will be tested in this case study.Communication Ability
In this category, the candidate;s English language proficiency will be tested. Questions in this category test basic rules of grammar, and vocabulary. Passages are given in English and questions are asked about them. Questions will be asked on synonyms, antonyms, proverbs, sayings, singular, plural, one-word substitutes, spelling corrections, etc. The questions will be mostly asked from High School level grammar. Analytical Ability
This section will test the candidate's logical thinking and analytical capacity. In this section, some information will be given and they ask questions on it. By analyzing information one can answer the questions easily. Knowledge of Mathematics will help to answer these questions.Creative ability Test
This test will examine candidates' creativity of designing, artistic skills, use of colors, observation abilities, etc. Group Discussions
They give a case study and it will be discussed for about 15-20 minutes. This will give an idea of the candidate's clarity on the concept, knowledge of the topic, how well the candidate has participated in a conference on the topic, interpersonal skills, leadership qualities, maturity in feelings, clarity in language, etc.Interview
