Overview
The Army Welfare Education Society (AWES) offers scholarships to Wards of Serving Army Personnel for their academic years at the school, undergraduate, and postgraduate levels under the Education Scholarship Scheme for Army Personnel, known in short as the ESSA scholarship. The processing of applications is done as per the exam results of the immediate preceding academic year between 1st October of the preceding year and 30th September of the current year. Thus, for example, for this year, it will be processed for the period 1st October 2020 to 30th September 2021. The last date for receipt of applications is 31st December, which may be extended and informed to applicants through the AWES website.
Applications generally are required to be submitted online, but, for the current year, offline applications are also accepted. When the candidates are selected and the merit list is prepared, after any further verification procedures, the scholarship amount is disbursed through a direct transfer into the applicant's bank account, as per the information that is given in the application.

Age and Army Personnel relation criteria
You should be a Ward of a person who is currently serving in the Army (including the Defence Security Corps)or a Military Nursing (MNS) Officer who has not attained 25 years of age at the time of completion of the class/course from Class IX to the PG level. However, you are not eligible to apply if you are a Ward of a person who has retired from the Army or is of the Territorial Army (TA) or a Ward of a battle casualty or a Ward of deceased Army personnel.
Academic Qualification criteria
You should meet the minimum criteria of percentage/grade, with all the subjects in the class taken into consideration for the calculation of the percentage of marks, and not merely marks that are obtained in the best four or best five subjects. Accordingly, the cut-offs are-
For Class IX to XII: 90% for Officers, and 85 for JCOs and other candidates.
For Graduation: 75% for Officers and JCOs, and 60 for other candidates.
For Postgraduate programs and Professional courses: 75% for Officers and JCOs, and 60 for other candidates.Application procedure

There are two additional scholarships- (i) The Times of India Merit Scholarship for professional courses, namely, in the engineering and medical streams, as well as for MBA, MCA, and Mass Communication and Journalism courses; and (ii) The Gem & Jewellery Scholarship for the school, undergraduate, and postgraduate levels. The HQ forwards those who are eligible to apply to the R&W Sec, CW Dte (DIAV). Separate applications should not be sent to the section.
