Indian Maritime University located in Chennai is a Central University set up by the Government of India. University has announced and invited applications for admissions in various research programmes of IMU. Courses are offered in the following Schools of IMU, Chennai in Part-Time/Full-Time mode. Candidates may choose to join the programme in Full time or Part-time.: Research Programmes Offered

Research Fellowship: Research fellowships will be awarded to Full-Time candidates only as per the IMU rules & regulations. Eligibility Criteria
For Ph.D. Program
Candidates who have passed 10th or 11th class/grade and PUC or higher secondary 12th grade before joining undergraduate (UG) program (3 or more years) and UG before joining PG degree program, i.e. 10+2+UG Degree (3 or more years) or 11+1+ UG Degree (3 or more years)
and
The Post Graduate degree with at least 55% marks or equivalent Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) in the relevant discipline. For SC/ ST/OBC(NCL)/ PwD candidates, there will be a relaxation of 5% in marks and they must have secured at least 50% (or equivalent CGPA).
or
M.S (by Research) or M.Phil degree in a relevant discipline.
or
Mariners with Master or MEO Class I Certificate of Competency or PGDMOM qualification with 2 years of continuous teaching experience at degree level as faculty in IMU/IMU Affiliated Institutes/DG(S) approved institutes, shall be eligible till the Academic Year 2023-24.
For Integrated Ph.D.
The candidates having UG degree with 10+2+( 3 or 4 ) pattern in a relevant discipline with at least 55% marks or equivalent Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA), except in the case of Mariners for whom a Master or MEO Class I Certificate of Competency would suffice. For SC/ ST/OBC(NCL)/ PwD candidates, there will be a relaxation of 5% in marks and they must have secured at least 50% (or equivalent CGPA).
For M.S. (By Research)

The candidates should visit the official website of Indian Maritime University, Tamil Nadu and go through the instructions given in the information brochure carefully before applying. They must use the web browsers Internet Explorer 10 or Mozilla Firefox 16 or Google Chrome 23 or higher (screen resolution of 1024x768 pixels or higher) to open the IMU registration website.
To get admission to Ph.D. program at IMU, the candidate need to register him/herself for the research programmes at the registration website of IMU. The whole registration process will be completed in two steps:
To complete the application submission, a candidate must complete both the steps and fill all the mandatory details /fields marked with an asterisk (*) in the detailed application form after basic registration. On successful submission, the Candidate will get a confirmation email to their registered email address. After successful submission of the online application form, the download option will be activated and candidates can download computer generated application form. The Candidate must download/print the successfully completed Application form and keep it for future reference and record. However, there is no need to send a hard copy of this application to IMU. Please note that after the final submission of the Registration Form no changes can be done. Hence, extra care must be taken while filling the details in the registration form. IMU will conduct an Entrance Test (January 2022) to select the candidates seeking admission to all research programmes including MS (By Research), Integrated Ph.D. and Ph.D. It is mandatory to appear in the entrance test for admission to these programmes.
The Entrance Test for all Research Programmes will be completed in two parts:
The total duration of the Entrance Test will be 3 hours. Stage I will include a total of 120 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs). It will be of a total of 2 hours of duration and have 40% weightage. MCQs will be based on General Mental Ability, Knowledge of the Maritime sector & Knowledge of the School / Area of Research in which the candidate proposes to do research. Stage II will be descriptive in nature and consist of essay type or descriptive questions. The essay test will be of 1-hour duration and shall have 30% weightage. It will cover relevant topics related to the School / Research Area. To assess proficiency in technical writing & English will be in the research area of the candidate's area of interest. Both parts (I & II) will be held one after another at the same examination venue for the convenience of the students. There will be no negative marking for wrong answers. The entrance test will be followed by a Personal Interview (Stage III) that will be conducted by the Departmental Committee. A personal interview will be held at IMU Headquarters. Stage III (Personal Interview) will have 30% weightage. To qualify for Stage II, a candidate should obtain at least 50% marks in Stage I and to qualify for Stage III, a minimum of 50% marks are required in Stage II.
Date & Time of Entrance Test: The entrance test will be held on 28.01.2022 (Timings: between 10.00 am and 1.00 pm).
Venue of the Entrance Test: The entrance test will be conducted in the selected IMU Campuses. The candidates will have to select an exam centre while filling the registration form online. Details if entrance exam centres are as follows:
