Internship at Indian Institute of Technology Delhi for international students

The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, amongst India's best engineering institutes, is offering internships to international students interested in research. Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi is one of the premier engineering colleges in India. It requires students to crack one of the most competitive exams in the world to get admission to its undergraduate courses. No wonder, IIT Delhi alumni are famous for their knowledge and skills in different domains. Be it India or abroad, they hold top positions in most tech and business organisations. However, apart from its famed undergraduate and postgraduate courses in the field of technology, IIT Delhi is also known for its management programs. The Department of Management Studies (DMS), under IIT Delhi, offers a number of full-fledged MBA programmes. It also offers PhD programmes in management and Executive MBA programmes for working professionals. On the infrastructure front, DMS has facilities comparable to those available at top institutions worldwide. A Stanford study done on Indian universities has ranked Department of Management Studies, IIT Delhi second in India in the field of business and management studies, putting it ahead of most IIMs (Indian Institute of Management), ISB (Indian School of Business) and even other top IITs. As per QS ranking too, DMS is the highest-ranked business school in India in the management field.

As part of its efforts towards a worldwide exchange of knowledge and information, every year IIT Delhi invites applications from international students for internships at its campus in New Delhi. These internships are for research positions at the postgraduate level. The offer is only for international students and as such the applicants should be non-Indians. Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs) or Non-resident Indians (NRIs) do not qualify for the internship offer. The programme duration for this research internship is 2-6 months. Applicants can apply for the internship any time during the year. There are no last days for receiving applications.



Eligibility criteria

The following two criteria are to be fulfilled by the applicants before applying for this research internship offer-
  1. The applicant should be studying at the postgraduate or higher level at any foreign university.
  2. The applicant should be a non-Indian

Important details about the internship

  • The internships are for research positions at the postgraduate level for management programmes.
  • The institute will provide offer letter for processing of visa.
  • Those who get selected as interns will be registered as 'Casual Student' of IIT Delhi. This nomenclature will be valid for the entire duration of the programme.
  • The registration fee for the internship is INR 48,000. However, the students need not pay for it, as it will be entirely sponsored by the DMS.
  • For the internship, post review, every student will be paid a monthly stipend of USD 1000.
  • The interns will have their advisor(s) and a DMS professor as their mentors. Intellectual Property Rights (IPR), if any are to be mutually shared and may require the signing of an agreement.
  • The interns are to work closely along with their assigned DMS faculty members.
  • Hostel accommodation along with food is provided by IIT Delhi. A fee of USD 80 per month is charged for the same.
  • On successful completion of the internship, a certificate is issued with 'Casual Student of IIT Delhi' mentioned on it.




Application process

The students have to apply directly to the Department of Management Studies, IIT Delhi by sending the following documents.
  1. Resume or CV of one page
  2. A Statement of Purpose mentioning the nature of activities to be pursued during the internship.
  3. A Letter of Recommendation is to be obtained from the applicant's parent university. The letter should be from a professor who has taught any course to the applicant.
  4. A Letter of Consent or an email from any of the faculty members of DMS, IIT Delhi. The applicants to write to the faculty members directly and seek consent from them to be their guide. Whom to send the application
