The notification of the National Entrance Screening Test (NEST)-2022 has been released for students keen to pursue the 5-year Integrated M.Sc. course in basic sciences, namely, Biology, Chemistry, Maths, and Physics for the academic session 2022-2027 at the National Institute of Science Education and Research (NISER) Bhubaneswar and University of Mumbai - Department of Atomic Energy Centre for Excellence in Basic Sciences (UM–DAE CEBS), Mumbai. You need to secure a position in the NEST-2022 merit list and fulfil the required eligibility requirements (mentioned later in this article) to be eligible for admission to the course.

About the Integrated M.Sc. course
Seats and reservation
The number of seats for the course is 200 at NISER and 27 at CEBS for the five-year course. 27% of the seats are reserved for those who apply in the category of Other Backward Classes belonging to the Non–Creamy Layer (OBC–NCL). There is also a reservation of 15% seats for those applying in the SC category, and 7.5% seats for ST category candidates. 5% of seats are reserved in every category for persons with disabilities (Divyangjan).
There are seats reserved for the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) of society in the General-EWS category for admission to CEBS, Mumbai and two supernumerary seats are reserved at both institutes for candidates from Jammu & Kashmir, and Ladakh as per Central Govt. norms.

NISER, which is a unit of Homi Bhabha National Institute (HBNI), will award the degree to the students who complete the M.Sc. program at their institute. On the other hand, if you complete the M.Sc. program at UM–DAE CEBS, then you will be awarded the degree by the University of Mumbai. Scholarships and Grants
On getting admission, you can be a recipient of an annual scholarship of Rs 60,000/-. The scholarship is offered through the scheme launched by the Department of Atomic Energy, Govt. of India. This is known as the DAE Incentive Scheme for Holistic Science Education and Augmentation (DISHA). You can also receive a grant of Rs.20,000/- per annum for taking up a summer internship. Furthermore, if you are selected by the Department of Science and Technology (DST) for the Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (INSPIRE)-Scholarship for Higher Education (SHE) program, then you will receive an endorsement for the INSPIRE scholarship by both the institutes, namely, NISER as well as CEBS.Who can apply
The eligibility criteria to apply for the Integrated M.Sc. program is-
Age criterion: You should be born on or after 1st August 2002 if applying in the category for general and OBC candidates. The age limit is relaxed by five years for those applying in the SC, ST, and PwD categories.
Academic Qualifications and Scores: You should be from a regular science stream in classes XI and XII and pass the Class 12 exam or its equivalent from any recognized Board in India in the years 2020 or 2021 or are appearing for the exam in 2022. If you are appearing for the board exam this year, then you must pass it at the time of admission into the program. You should have secured at least 60% marks in aggregate or equivalent grade in the Class 12 exam to be eligible for admission to both, NISER and CEBS (55% in aggregate is the required marks for SC, ST, and PwD candidates.)NEST-2022 application fee Male candidates of the General and OBC category are required to pay an application fee of Rs.1,200/-, while those from the SC and ST categories have to pay Rs.600/-. In the case of female candidates of all categories, as well as persons with disabilities (Divyang), the application fee is Rs.600/-. This fee has to be paid in online mode only through Net Banking facility or by using a Credit Card or a Debit Card (use Mastercard/Visa/RuPay cards only).
About NEST 2022 Exam and Format
You will be assigned to either the first session or the second session for the NEST exam that will be conducted online at exam centres all over India (refer to the official notification to know the 116 center locations). It is for 3 hours and 30 minutes, with two sessions, one in the morning, and the other in the afternoon (see timings below). Those appearing for the exam in the Divyang category will be given an extra 20 minutes. It is mandatory to bring to the exam centre the Admit Card and a school photo Identity Card or any other valid photo ID that is issued by a government agency.
The online NEST-2022 entrance test for the M.Sc. Integrated Program in Basic Sciences is a Computer-Based Test (CBT) that will have questions in English. There are 4 sections in total, with Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) in all the sections. Each section has a total of 50 marks with subject-specific questions from Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Physics. For certain questions, negative marks will be awarded to an incorrect answer, and some questions may have one or more correct answers for which you need to mark all the correct answers.
The syllabus for NEST-2022 is based on the NCERT/ CBSE science syllabus of Classes 11 and 12. Exam papers of previous years are available on the official website to give you an idea of the type of questions that are asked in each section. You can also try out the mock test that will be available on the official website to familiarize yourself with the process of answering the MCQs online.At the Exam Center
Ensure that you reach the exam centre as assigned to you 90 minutes before the start of the session. Nobody will be allowed to enter the exam hall 30 minutes after the exam begins, and nobody can leave earlier than 2 hours after it starts, unless required, such as for a medical emergency that arises. You have to bring your own blue or black pen, and will not be allowed to take calculators, log tables, digital/smartwatches, mobile phones, storage devices, and the like into the exam hall. Application procedure for NEST-2022
Applications have to be submitted in online mode only from 21st February 2022 at the official website NEST 2022 application portal online after registration with an email ID and mobile phone number. During this online process, you can select up to five centers as a preference to appear for NEST-2022, and the address of the centres will be printed on your Admit Card.
The online application form should be filled up completely with no mistakes or incorrect information. Other than personal details, such as name, address, etc. you have to fill in the details of the qualifying board exams of both, Class 10 as well as Class 12. Make sure that you scan and keep ready the required documents to upload, including a passport size photo and signature (both should be not more than 80KB in size and in JPG or JPEG format only). Ensure that you upload the correct certificates and that these match the original documents, as the originals will be required to be produced at the time of verification of documents during the admission process and/or counselling process at the campus.
Pay the application fee as mentioned earlier in this article and apply double-checking that all the information entered is correct. Once the application is successfully submitted, download it and keep a printout for future reference.Important dates

You can download the Admit Card on or after 6th June 2022.
