The Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology is a private institute located in Thiruvananthapuram. It was established in 1956 and is recognised by the UGC. It was ranked 40 for Engineering by NIRF 2021. IIST offers undergraduate, postgraduate, Ph.D., and dual degree programs under seven departments like Aerospace Engineering, Avionics, Chemistry, Earth & Space Sciences, Humanities, Mathematics, and Physics. Eligibility Criteria
The applicant should be an Indian citizen, and below 35 years as of 12th December 2022. Other requirements are-Educational Qualification
Ph.D. in Engineering
To be eligible for admission in Ph.D. Engineering, the candidates must satisfy any of the eligibility criteria:
The candidates must a degree in M.Tech or ME in Engineering/Technology. They must have scored at least a CPI of 6.5 or 60% marks.
The candidates who have BE or B. Tech from the institute other than IITs must have scored a minimum CPI of 8.0 or 75% of marks.
The candidates having a Bachelor's degree from any Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) should have a minimum CPI of 7.0.
The candidates having a Master's degree in Science in a relevant area should have a minimum CPI of 7.5 or 70%. Ph.D. in Science
The candidates who wish to get admission to Ph.D. Science must fulfil the following eligibility criteria:
The candidate must have an M.Phil or MSc or ME or M.Tech degree in a relevant area with a minimum CPI of 6.5 or 60% of marks.
The candidates who have BE or B. Tech from the institute other than IITs/IISc must have scored a minimum CPI of 8.0 or 75% of marks.
The candidates having a Bachelor's degree from any Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) should have a minimum CPI of 7.0.PhD in Humanities and Social Sciences
The candidates who wish to get admission in Ph.D. Programs in the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences (HSS) must fulfil the following eligibility criteria:
The candidates must have an M.Phil or Master's degree in Arts/Commerce/Science in a relevant area with at least 55% marks or equivalent.
He/she must have an ME or M.Tech or M.Des. in a relevant area with a minimum CPI of 6.5 or 60% marks.
The candidates who have BE or B. Tech from the institute other than IITs/IISc must have scored a minimum CPI of 7.5 or 70% of marks.
The candidates having a Bachelor's degree from any Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) should have a minimum CPI of 7.0.Research Fellowship
Indian students who will be eligible for the Institute assistantships will get a total emolument of Rs.31,000 /per month (current rate) as per prevailing (GoI) norms. Assistantship or fellowship will be enhanced to 35,000/- per month based on a performance review after two years of Research. The scholars will be required to assist the departments in tutorials, practical training in labs, or similar academic activities normally limited to 6 hours per week. For those who receive a fellowship from agencies such as DST, CSIR, NBHM, UGC, and candidates who have been provided research fellowship by State Government Science and Technology Scheme through competitive written tests,s, etc., the Institute will not bear the fellowship of the student if the same is stopped due to any reasons by the concerned agency.How to Apply
The candidates who wish to join the Ph.D. program must visit the official website of IIST Thiruvananthapuram and read instructions carefully before applying. Before starting the application procedure, read the information brochure carefully that is available on the official website. Application Form and Brochure will be available online and each candidate is eligible to apply for a maximum of two Areas of the high level of specialization.
For registration, candidates need to provide their full name, date of birth, email address, and mobile number. After registration, the candidate must log in using login credentials to fill out the online application form and upload the required documents. After filling out the application form, the candidate must pay the application fee online. The application fee is to be paid online. Submit the form and take a printout for future reference. The application fee is non-refundable and will not be refunded under any circumstances.Application Fee

Selection Procedure
Admission of the candidates to the Ph.D. programs will be done based on their performance in the written test conducted by Institute. The written test will be conducted in online mode only. The date and time of the written test will be shared with the candidates separately.
The candidates who will qualify written test will be called for an interview. Only a limited number of candidates will be called for written tests or interviews based on their academic records and other documents submitted with the application such as a statement of purpose etc. The final selection of the candidates will be based on academic credentials, written tests, and/or interviews. Relaxations to the SC/ST/PD candidates will be given as per the reservation policy of GoI.Important Dates
