JEE Advanced 2022 important dates and registration procedure

JEE Advanced is a competitive exam conducted by the IITs in India for admission to its various undergraduate programs in engineering. It is considered the toughest and the most competitive exam in India. On average, only 2.5 lakh students qualify to appear for this most prestigious engineering entrance exam. It is the gateway for admission to the IITs and many other top institutes in India. JEE stands for Joint Entrance Exam and the test is instrumental in filtering out the most talented students and providing them with the opportunity to pursue a course of their choice at one of the twenty-three IITs in India. Held once a year, the JEE Advanced 2022 is being organized by IIT Bombay.

However, to appear or register for JEE Advanced, the aspiring candidates have to first qualify by clearing the JEE Mains, a competitive exam conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) and a precursor of the JEE Advanced. The JEE Mains is appeared by more than 10 lakh engineering aspirants, out of which around 2.5 lakh only qualify for the JEE Advanced.



In a recent notification dated 24 February 2022, the information brochure and detailed schedule for the JEE Advanced 2022 has been published on its official website; details of which are as follows.

  • Choosing of scribes (for PwD candidates only) - 02 July 2022

    Paper 1: 9 am - 12 am
    Paper 2: 2:30 pm - 5:30 pm
  • Candidate response copy to be available on - 07 July 2022 (10 am)
  • Release of provisional keys - 09 July 2022 (10 am)
  • Results and declaration of final answer keys - 18 July 2022 (10 am)

Eligibility criteria

The JEE Advanced can be appeared by Indian as well as foreign nationals. The eligibility criteria for Indian nationals are given below.

For appearing in the JEE Advanced, every candidate to fulfil five criteria, which are as follows.

  1. Should be among the top 2,50,000 successful candidates in JEE Main. Out of this total number, 10% of the students will be from the Gen-EWS category, 27% from OBC-NCL, 15% from SC and 7.5% from the ST category. 40.5% of the candidates will be from the open category. Within each category, including, the open category, 5% of the students will be from the PwD category.

  2. The candidates should have been born on or after 01 October 1997. For SC, ST and PwD candidates, an additional five years in age relaxation is provided.

  3. Number of attempts are restricted to just two consecutive attempts.

  4. The candidate should have appeared for the 10+2 or equivalent examination for the first time in 2021 or 2022 with the subjects physics, chemistry and mathematics. However, on account of Covid, as one-time measures, relaxation has been provided to candidates, who appeared for class 12 for the first time in 2020/2021 and registered for JEE Advanced 2021, but did not appear for any of the papers. Such candidates are eligible and can directly register for JEE Advanced 2022, without having to appear for JEE Main 2022. Also, those who appeared 10+2 for the first time in 2020 and have at the most appeared once either for JEE Advanced 2020 or 2021 are also eligible to apply for JEE Advanced 2022. However, such candidates will have to appear for JEE Main 2022 and qualify as usual like this year's candidates.

  5. Candidates should not have been admitted to an IIT or accepted an IIT seat in a previous year. Those who had their seats cancelled after joining any IIT are also not eligible. Those who did not report during JOSSA counselling, or withdrew or got their IIT seat cancelled before the last round of counselling are eligible to apply.



How to register

Registration for the entrance exam has to be done online by visiting the official website of JEE Advanced. Candidates will have to provide a valid Email ID and mobile number for registration. After registration, they can log in and fill up the online application form. The registration fee as given below has to be paid online for JEE Advanced 2022. Note that the fee once paid is neither refundable nor transferable to another candidate.

Apart from the registration fee, the candidates will have to submit the following documents.
  • Birth or class 10 certificate for proof of date of birth.

  • Class 12 certificate for those who appeared in the exam for the first time in 2021 or those given relaxations to appear for JEE Advanced 2022, even though they appeared for class 12 the first time in 2020. Candidates passing class 12 in 2022, if in possession of mark sheets or passing certificate, to submit the same.

  • If name not same as in class 10 certificate, then gazette notification regarding the change in name.

  • For Gen-EWS candidates, the necessary certificate be issued not before 01 April 2022. A declaration to that effect, in case the Gen-EWS certificate is not available with them by the time of registration.

  • Similarly, for OBC-NCL candidates, the required category certificate. The issued date should not be before 01 April 2022. Declaration, in case certificate not available in time.

  • Caste or tribe certificate, for SC and ST candidates respectively.

  • For PwD candidates, a Physical Disability Certificate, issued by a notified medical authority.

  • For candidates belonging to the defence category, the necessary certificate issued by the concerned armed forces record office.

  • Request letter for those needing the services of a scribe or compensatory time for disabled candidates.



About the test

The test has two papers, Paper 1 and Paper 2. Appearing for both the papers is compulsory. Both the papers will have objective type questions on physics, mathematics and chemistry. Some of the questions in each paper will carry negative marks for wrong answers. Also, some of the questions will be of numerical answer type, where there won't be any choices. The marking scheme and other details will be given in the question paper and candidates to read them very carefully. Both the papers will be held online in Computer Based Test (CBT) mode. The total duration of each paper will be of three hours. The candidates will be allotted the nearest centre as per the choices submitted by them, during the registration process. The test will be held all across India in various towns and cities.
