The Indian Naval Sailing Association is offering an exciting opportunity for boys to join the Navy Boys Sports Company (NBSC)-2022 batch. Through this opportunity, boys with sailing skills will receive advanced coaching in the sport and also complete their school academic studies at the same time. A possibility of a future career with the Indian Navy is also open.

About the Navy Boys Sports Company

The NBSC is a wonderful collaboration between the Indian Navy and the Sports Authority of India (SAI) to assist those with sailing proficiency with the required professional coaching with support facilities to make them future champions in the sport of sailing and yachting. The first batch of five boys started their training in 2017 and it has been a popular program since then.

Boys who are selected and enrolled for the batch will be provided academic learning from Class VI to Class X/XII. There is no fee for this, as the education is totally free of cost. The boys will study in English medium at KV, Mandovi, Goa. The coaching in sailing will be an in-depth one that will be given by highly qualified coaches of the Sports Authority of India and/or coaches of the Indian Navy.

On successfully qualifying for the Class 10 exam, the boys will go through a selection process as per the existing norms to qualify for enrolment into the Indian Navy.

The boys who are found to be unsuitable either due to unsatisfactory performance or lack of improvement may be weeded out of the program. Boys can also be discharged for indiscipline or for medical reasons.



Important note: At the time of application, it must be ensured that all information is correct and no details are concealed (such as health issues). If at any stage of the academic or training program such information is discovered, then the boy will be disqualified and the cost of training must be reimbursed by the parents/guardians.

Eligibility requirements

The program is open only to boys who are citizens of India and have participated in yachting or sailing in national (junior) championship events and/or international events. If you have adequate experience of sailing, then also you are eligible to apply.

Other criteria are as follows-
Age: Only those from age 12 up to 15 years are eligible.

Educational Qualifications: You should have passed Class 5 with adequate knowledge of English and Hindi.

General Medical Standards: You should be medically fit as per the medical exam that will be scheduled, with authorized Military Doctors conducting the exam. You should not have any surgical deformities, cardiovascular diseases, ear infections, etc, and no medical history of psychiatric ailments, varicose veins, corrective surgery for vision, etc.

Vision: Without glasses, the better eye should have a vision of 6/6 and the worse eye 6/9, while with glasses the better eye should have a vision of 6/6 and the worse eye also 6/6.

Ears and Teeth Care: Ensure that both ears are cleaned thoroughly for wax, and there is no tartar on teeth prior to the medical exam.

Tattoos: A permanent body tattoo is permitted only from the inside of the elbow to the wrist, and on the reverse side of the palm/backside of the hand. Candidates with permanent body tattoos anywhere else will not be allowed to appear for the selection process.

You have to register in person on 2nd April 2022 at 0800hrs. The registration venue is -

Trials for selection will be conducted at the same venue on 2nd April and 3rd April 2022, at 0800hrs.

Application procedure to join NBSC

Boys who report to the venue will be given an application form to fill up. The following documents must be submitted along with the completed application form-
  1. The original copy of the birth certificate that has been issued by the Gram Panchayat/Municipal Corporation/Registrar of births and deaths. Misplaced the birth certificate? Learn how to apply for a duplicate birth certificate

  2. The original copies of Education Certificates from the school.

  3. The original copy of the Character Certificate from the Gram Pradhan/Municipal Corporation.

  4. The original copy of the residential/Domicile certificate that is issued by the Tehsildar/SDM.

  5. Six colour photos- these should all be the latest photos and must be taken against a blue background. An additional recent colour passport size photo should be submitted along with the application, with your name and signature on the reverse of the photo.

  6. Original copy of sports' participation certificates at National and Inter-Club events, if any.

Important note- While the original documents are required to be shown, you must bring one set of copies of all those documents, and these copies should be attested by the parents/Guardians. All these copies are required to be submitted along with the application form.



Selection procedure

Trials for selection will be conducted at the same venue as the registration venue (see address given earlier). The dates for Trials and Selection are 2nd April and 3rd April 2022, at 0800hrs. While medical aid will be provided at the venue, the Navy Boys Sports Company will not take responsibility for any injuries that are sustained during the trials.

The trials will be conducted by a team of NBSC and officials, and parents/guardians will not be permitted to interfere in the process of trials and selections. During the selection procedure, boys will be shortlisted based on higher sailing achievements. You will be required to deposit certificates of medals/participation in the Yachting Association of India (YAI) Youth Nationals/Inter-Club Sailing Championships. Boys with a top position in YAI Nationals will be given priority in the selection process.

Boys who are selected will be forwarded a Police Verification form along with the offer of selection, and they must submit the same to INS Mandovi at the time of enrollment after getting the verification done from the concerned District Police Authorities.



Additional notes about the Medical exam: In case of boys who are declared to be temporary unfit during the medical exam of the selection process, they can apply for a Specialist review from the specified Military Hospital within a maximum of 21 days, after which no further review or appeal will be allowed.

In the case of boys who are declared to be permanently unfit during the medical exam of the selection process, they can appeal for a Specialist opinion from the specified Military Hospital within a maximum of 21 days on payment of Rs.40/- by Military Receivable Order (MRO) on Govt. Treasury. No medical fitness certificate that has been issued by anyone else other than the Specialist will be considered, and no further review or appeal will be allowed.
