LEEE-2022 for lateral entry to dual degree programmes in IIIT Hyderabad

About LEEE International Institute of Information Technology, Hyderabad, which is one of the most prestigious institutes for IT education in India, has various modes of admission to its undergraduate programmes. LEEE, which stands for Lateral Entry Entrance Examination, is one of the modes or channels for admission to undergraduate programmes at IIIT Hyderabad. Through the LEEE mode, aspiring candidates can seek lateral entry to the following dual degree programmes at the institute.

The above programmes are of 5-years in duration and the students on completion of the course will be awarded two degrees – B.Tech (Hons.) in the respective discipline and an MS by Research degree. For the award of the MS degree, the students will have to present a research thesis and defend it successfully. The above courses are of immense value for the students, as after graduating they can opt for research-oriented jobs or go for higher studies like PhDs in India or abroad. The courses are best suitable for those with an inclination for research.
For lateral entry students, the course is of four years in duration. After completing the first year of the course, they will directly join the third year of the regular dual degree programmes. The number of seats available for lateral entry students is fifteen for each programme.
Those with 80% marks in aggregate or above 8 CGPA at the end of their third semester are strongly recommended to apply for the programmes. In general, completion of the fourth semester is mandatory for considering the candidates for lateral entry at IIIT-H. However, as an exception due to COVID-19 for the 2022 batch, the semester requirement is for three semesters only.
Selection process Candidates are selected based on a two-stage process. In the first stage, the candidates appear for a computer-based test and those qualifying in the test are called for an interview. Based on the performances in the interview, the final selections are done.
About the test LEEE is conducted in a computer-based mode. The questions asked are of the objective type. The duration of the exam is three hours. Those applying for the CSD programme have to appear for the test on Computer Science & Engineering and those applying for the ECD programme have to appear for a test on Electronics & Communication Engineering.
The topics for the CSE exam are General Aptitude, Digital Logic, Data Structures, Discrete Math and C Programming. For E&C engineering, apart from General Aptitude and Digital Logic, there will be questions on topics such as Circuit Theory & Networks, Electronic Devices & Circuits and Signals & Systems.

How to apply To apply for LEEE, the candidates need to visit the official website of IIIT Hyderabad. The applicants have to first register on the site before they can fill up an online application form. An application fee of INR 2,500 (non-refundable) is to be paid online for registering for the exam.
Tuition fees The tuition fees for all undergraduate programmes at IIIT Hyderabad for the academic year 2022-2023 is INR 3,30,000. Additionally, the students will have to pay INR 3,000 per month as hostel fees and INR 4,500 per month as mess fees. Successful candidates, on acceptance of the seat, have to pay an initial amount of INR 1,65,000 as tuition fees for the first semester.
In the fifth year of their studies, all meritorious students can expect tuition fee support from the Research Advisor, Research Centre or the institute. The institute has an arrangement with the State Bank of India for educational loans up to INR 20 lakhs. Besides this, there is a fund set up by the alumni of the institute, which can be availed by students in need of financial aid. The alumni assistance is provided on a pay-it-forward basis, where the student after graduating and starting earning is expected to do the same for another needy student of the institute. Another way of earning financial support is by working as an assistant for teaching as well research related works by the faculty.
