IIT Delhi Postgraduate and Ph.D. Programs admissions 2022-2023
Admissions to postgraduate and Ph.D. programs at the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, have been announced for the academic year 2022–2023. Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi (IIT Delhi) has released its official notification and called for applications for admission to postgraduate or Ph.D. programs for 2022–2023 (1st semester) from eligible candidates. Details of the programmes are as follows:Departments offering courses
Ph.D. Programmes
Duration of Ph.D. Programme: M.Tech or equivalent degree holders must register for a minimum of two years, whereas B.Tech or equivalent degree holders must register for three years. However, the maximum period for submission of the thesis is 7 years for all candidates.
Eligibility criteria for full-time Ph.D. programmes
The candidates must hold an M.Tech., M.E., M.D., or M.Des. or equivalent degree with 60% marks or 6.00 CGPA on a 10-point scale. There is a relaxation of 5% marks, i.e., 55% (CGPA relaxed from 6.00 to 5.50) for the candidates who belong to the SC/ST/PwD category.
The candidate with an M.Sc., MBA, M.A., MBBS, or equivalent degree must have secured 60% marks or 6.00 CGPA on a 10-point scale. It is relaxed from 60% to 55% (CGPA relaxed from 6.00 to 5.50) for SC/ST/PwD category candidates. In addition to the minimum qualifications, candidates must have received a GATE/CSIR/UGC NET/ICAR/ICMR/DST-INSPIRE fellowship.
Candidates must hold a B.E./B.Tech/B.Des. or equivalent degree with 70% marks or a CGPA of 7.00 on a 10-point scale in order to be eligible for the GATE/CSIR/UGC NET/CEED/ICAR/DST-INSPIRE fellowship. For SC/ST/PwD category candidates, the minimum mark percentage is reduced from 70% to 65% (CGPA reduced from 7.00 to 6.50).
Eligibility requirements for part-time and sponsored (full-time) Ph.D. programmes
In the part-time and sponsored (full-time) Ph.D. programs, only employees of public sector undertakings or government departments, research and development organizations, or private industries (approved by faculty boards) can take admissions.
To get admission, they must fulfil the following eligibility criteria:M. Tech./M.S. (Research)/M. Des. Programmes
Programme Duration: The minimum duration of M. Tech., M.S. (Research), and M.Des. is 2 years (4 semesters) for full time and 3-years (6 semesters) for part-time programmes.
Admission requirements for full-time M.Tech./M.S. (R)/M. Des. programmes
Candidates must have a B.E./B. Tech./M.Sc. or equivalent degree with a minimum of 60% marks or 6.00 CGPA on a 10-point scale for admission to M. Tech./M.Tech. (High-Value Assistantship)/M.S. (R). This will be relaxed to 55% for SC/ST/PwD category students. Admission will be based on the GATE score and interview. The requirement of a GATE/National Exam for M.S. (R) will be waived for candidates who are currently registered for B. Tech./B.E./ Integrated M. Tech./Integrated M. Sc. Programmes in Centrally Funded Technical Institutes (CFTIs) and have a CGPA of 8.00 or above (on a 10 point scale) at the end of the 6th semester or later or who have secured a graduate from CFTIs with a final graduation CGPA of more than 8.00 (80% aggregate marks or M.A or M.Sc. graduates from IITs with a CGPA of 8.00 or above).
For admission to M. Des., applicants must hold a B.E. or B. Tech. or B.Des. or equivalent degree with a minimum of 60% marks or 6.00 CGPA on a 10-point scale and 55% marks or 5.50 CGPA for SC/ST/PwD category students and a CEED score. Admission will be based on a valid CEED score and an interview.
Minimum Admission Requirements for Part-Time and Sponsored (Full-Time) M. Tech./M.S. (R) Programs
For admission to part-time and sponsored full-time programmes, candidates who are already in employment in PSUs, government organizations, or private industries (approved by Faculty Boards) and whose organisations are located within a 50 km radius of IIT Delhi are eligible.
Candidate must have a B.E./B.Tech./M.Sc. or equivalent degree from a CFTI/Central University or work in IIT Delhi (Project or Regular) and six months post-qualification experience. However, those who have a degree in B.E./B.Tech./M.Sc. or equivalent, from institutions other than CFTIs or Central Universities, must have 1-year of post-qualification experience.
In the case of sponsored (full-time) candidates, they must submit a "Sponsorship certificate" on proper letterhead from the appropriate authority in the organisation stating that the candidate would be treated as on duty with their usual salary and allowances and be granted 2 years of study leave.
Part-time candidates are required to submit a "No Objection Certificate" on a proper letterhead from the appropriate authority in the organization. Admission of all part-time and sponsored candidates will be based on an interview or selection process.M.Sc. in Cognitive Science
Programme Duration: The M.Sc. programme lasts 4 semesters (2-years).
Eligibility requirements: For admission to M.Sc. Cognitive Science, candidates must hold a Bachelor's degree like B.A. or B.Sc. or B.Tech., or B.E. and score at least 55% or 5.5 CGPA on a 10-point scale (50% marks and CGPA of 5.00 for SC/ST/PH category students). Admission to M.Sc. in the Cognitive Science programme will be through a central national-level Joint Admission Test in Cognitive Science (COGJET) or other exams like JAM/GATE/CSIR/JRF/NET and personal interview.Master of Public Policy (M.P.P.)
MPP Programmes focus on Science, Technology & Innovation (STI) and Development.
Programme Duration: Master of Public Policy (MPP) is a two-year full-time programme. It includes four semesters (24 months).
Eligibility for Programmes:The candidate who wishes to join Master of Public Policy must have passed a five-year Bachelor's degree such as MBBS, B.A. L.L.B. (Hon.), B.Arch. or equivalent or four-year Bachelor's Degree such as B.Tech., B.Sc. (Ag.), B.V.Sc. or Postgraduate degrees such as M.A., M.Sc., M.Phil., Integrated M.Sc./M.A., M.Tech. or equivalent degree with a minimum of 60% or 6.0 CGPA on a 10-point scale. There will be a relaxation of 5% marks for SC/ST/PwD category candidates. They need a minimum of 55% marks or a CGPA of 5.50 in the qualifying degree.
Admission Procedure: Admission to the programme will be done through written and oral exams and personal interviews.
Note: The interviews will be held online through video conferencing.Reservation of Seats
There will be a 15% reservation in seats for SC, 7.5% for ST, and 27% for non-creamy layer OBC candidates. Apart from this, 10% of seats are reserved for EWS (Economically Weaker Section) candidates and 5% for Persons with Disability (PwD) candidates. The candidates who wish to get the reservation category benefit must apply under this category and should produce a relevant category certificate at the time of interview. Scholarships/financial support are available for candidates who will get admission to Ph.D./M.Tech./ M.Des./M.S.(R)/M.Sc./ MPP as full-time students. Details of financial assistance available are given in the information brochure. How to Apply
Desirous candidates may apply through online mode only by visiting the official website of IIT Delhi. To fill out the online application form, candidates must register themselves on the application portal of IITD. After registration, the application form is to be filled out and the application fee is to be submitted. Candidates must fill out separate application forms by selecting relevant programmes like Ph.D., M.S. (R), M.Tech. programme (except Mechanical and Physics Departments), M.Des., M.Sc., and M.P.P. for each department/centre/school. The offer for admission to M.Tech. programmes will be made through the Common Offer Acceptance Portal (COAP). Therefore, GATE qualified candidates must register on the COAP portal before applying and mention their COAP Registration No. in the application form. Programme codes are to be filled in at the appropriate places in the Application Form. The PhD programme codes and M.S. (R) programme codes are provided in Annexure I and Annexure-II in the Information Brochure.

The application fee is non-refundable. The bank charges, as applicable, on online transactions will be borne by the candidate. Candidates must note that there is no need to send a hard copy of the application form to IITD. It is mandatory to submit a NOC/Sponsorship Certificate from the employer at the time of the interview in the case of part-time/sponsored (full-time) candidates.Key Dates
