Keen to take up a teaching career in a school? Know how to become a primary or secondary or higher secondary school teacher in maths, science, social science, or languages through a recognized teaching education course offered by the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT), New Delhi through its various Regional Institutes of Education (RIEs). THe list of RIE-offered programs, eligibility criteria, and how to apply for the courses is provided in this article.
The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT), New Delhi has released the notification for online applications for admission to teacher education programs at the various Regional Institutes of Education, known as RIEs of NCERT. The RIE teacher education programs provided comprehensive training on how to teach and improve communication skills. Before applying, ensure that you have a valid domicile certificate that is of the relevant authority of the State where the RIE is located to which you are seeking admission for the course.
In this article, you will get general details of the number of seats and educational qualifications required to seek admission to the various RIE courses. It is advisable to go through the individual brochure (available on the official website) of each specific course to know additional details, such as the domicile requirements, hostel facilities, scholarships available, and syllabus for the entrance test for that course, etc.
RIE courses and Eligibility Requirements
RIE B.A. B.Ed. course
This is a four-year program ideal for those aspiring to become TGTs (Trained Graduate Teachers) for teaching upper primary and secondary school students in the subject of Social Science or a Language subject, as this course combines academic components of Social Science, Humanities, and professional studies. For the course, you can take up one Language and two Social Science subjects.
The number of seats: 55 at RIE Ajmer, 55 at Bhubaneswar, 44 at RIE Bhopal, and 44 at RIE Mysuru.
Eligibility criteria: You must pass the +2/Higher Secondary/Senior Secondary or an equivalent exam in Science and Commerce streams or an Arts stream with a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate (relaxation of 5% marks for SC, ST, and PwD category candidates) in 2019 or 2020 or appearing or already appeared in 2021.RIE B.Sc. B.Ed. course
This is a four-year course for those aspiring to teach science and mathematics to secondary school students.
Number of seats: 55 at RIE Ajmer, 55 at Bhubaneswar for both, Physical Science Group (PCM) and Biological Science Group (CBZ), and 44 at RIE Bhopal and 44 at Mysuru for both, PCM and CBZ.
Eligibility criteria: (i) For the PCM Group, you should pass the +2-level exam with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics (either Maths or Statistics are acceptable); (ii) For the CBZ Group, you should pass the +2-level exam with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology (either Biology or Biotechnology is acceptable).
Note: The qualifying exam should be recognized by the affiliating universities of the RIEs and you should score a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate in that exam (relaxation of 5% marks for SC, ST, and PwD candidates). Only those who have passed the qualifying exam in 2019, 2020 or are appearing or have appeared in 2021 are eligible to apply for admission for the B.Sc., B.Ed. course.RIE M.Sc.Ed. course
This six-year integrated course is suitable for those who wish to become a teacher at the senior secondary school level in the subjects of physics, chemistry, and mathematics. It is scheduled based on the semester pattern, that is, there are two semesters in each year of the course, with each semester having 16 weeks (not including the exam).
The number of seats: This course is offered only at RIE Mysuru. There are 18 seats for M.Sc.Ed. (Physics), 18 seats for M.Sc.Ed (Chemistry), and 18 seats for M.Sc.Ed (Mathematics)
Eligibility criteria: You should pass the +2/Higher Secondary/ Senior Secondary or any equivalent exam with a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate (relaxation of 5% marks for SC, ST, and PwD candidates) and have passed with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics (PCM) (either Maths or Statistics is acceptable) at the +2 level. Those who have passed the qualifying exam in 2019, 2020 and are appearing or have appeared in 2021 only will be allowed to apply. The qualifying exam should be recognized by the affiliating university of RIE Mysuru (University of Mysuru).
RIE Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) course
This is a two-year professional course for those who wish to teach Science, Maths, Language, and Social Science to students of Classes 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10, and those who also have a postgraduate qualification to teach students of Class 11 and 12.
Number of seats: (i) For Science and Maths Group- 55 at RIE Ajmer, 44 at RIE Bhopal, 55 at RIE Bhubaneswar, 25 at RIE Mysuru, and 25 at NERIE Shillong; (ii) For Social Science and Language Group- 55 at RIE Ajmer, 44 at RIE Bhopal, 55 at RIE Bhubaneswar, 25 at RIE Mysuru, and 25 at NERIE Shillong
Eligibility criteria: You need to have at least 50% marks either in the Bachelor's Degree exam/Bachelor's in Engineering or Technology with a specialization in Science or Maths or scoring a minimum of 50% in Bachelor's Degree in Social Sciences/Humanities/Commerce (relaxation of 5% marks for those seeking admission in SC, ST or PwD categories).RIE M.Ed. course
This two-year professional course is for those who wish to become teachers or take up education-related careers, including administrative work, developing an academic curriculum or an educational policy, etc. For the course, you can opt for a specialization in either elementary education or secondary and senior secondary education.
Number of seats: 33 at RIE Ajmer, 36 at RIE Bhubaneswar, 33 at RIE Bhopal, and 35 at RIE Mysuru.
Eligibility criteria: You should pass with a minimum of 50% marks or an equivalent grade (there is 5% relaxation for SC, ST, and PwD candidates) in these courses from a recognized college or university or an institute that is recognized by the affiliating universities of the RIEs: (i) B.Ed.; (ii) B.A.B.Ed./B.A.Ed./B.Sc.B.Ed/B.Sc.Ed.; (iii) B.El.Ed.; (iv) D.El.Ed. with a Bachelor's degree in Arts/Science (with 50% marks in each).RIE M.Sc.Ed. course
This is a six-year integrated course that allows you to teach at the senior secondary school level in the subjects of physics, chemistry, and mathematics.
Number of seats: This course is offered only at RIE Mysuru, where there are 18 seats each for M.Sc.Ed. (Physics), M.Sc.Ed (Chemistry), and M.Sc.Ed (Mathematics).
Eligibility: You should pass the +2/Higher Secondary/ Senior Secondary or any equivalent exam that is of a recognized University/Board with a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate (relaxation of 5% marks for SC, ST, and PwD candidates) and also pass in the subjects of Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics (PCM) (both Maths or Statistics are acceptable) at the +2 level. The 4-year integrated B.A. B.Ed. and the 4-year integrated B.Sc. B.Ed. courses are also offered at the State Institute of Advanced Studies in Teacher Education (formerly called Prarambh School for Teacher Education) in Jhajjar, Haryana.
Important information for candidates qualifying through 2021 exams-
(i) The last date for submission of the qualifying exam marks for 2021-appearing applicants of B.Sc.B.Ed./B.A.B.Ed./M.Sc.Ed. program is 25th July 2021. (ii) The last date for submission of the qualifying exam marks for 2021-appearing applicants of the B.Ed./M.Ed. program is 30th July 2021.How to apply for NCERT RIE courses Applications should be submitted online only at the CEE-2022 official website no later than 30th June 2022. First, register with a valid email ID and mobile number and, on receipt of the One-Time Password (OTP), proceed to log in and fill in the online application form. Fill up all the required details correctly and click on the submit button only on ensuring that all the information has been correctly filled in. The photo and signature to be scanned and uploaded should be in JPG or JPEG format and should be greater than 5kb and less than 40kb (photo dimension- 3.5 cm width x 4.5cm height, and signature dimension- should be 3.5 cm width x 1.5cm height).
You are allowed to apply for more than one course with the same registration ID. However, before doing so, you should check that you do fulfill the eligibility requirements of each course, including the domicile requirement. You can also select up to a maximum of three test centres.
Application fee-
For General category candidates: Rs. 1000/-.
For SC/ST category candidates: Rs.500/-.
For PwD candidates of any category: Rs. 500/-.
For Economically Weaker Section (EWS) candidates: Rs.500/-.Important dates of NCERT CEE-2022 for RIE courses
The online registration and online submission of applications are from 20th April 2022 to 30th June 2022.
The downloading of the Admit Card can be done from 15th July to 24th July 2022.
The date of the NCERT Common Entrance Examination-2022 is 24th July 2022.
The last date for submission of qualifying exam marks for those applying for B.Sc.B.Ed./B.A.B.Ed./ M.Sc.B.Ed. courses are 20th July 2022.
The last date for submission of qualifying exam marks for those applying for B.Ed./M.Ed. courses are 25th July 2022.
The CEE-2022 Result for B.Sc.B.Ed./B.A.B.Ed./M.Sc.B.Ed. courses will be declared on 1st August 2022.
