Central Institute of Fisheries Nautical and Engineering Training (CIFNET) is the only national institute of its kind in the country. The two units of the Institute were established in Chennai in the year 1968 and at Visakhapatnam in the year1981.

This institute offers various courses like Bachelor of Fisheries Science (Nautical Science) of 4-year duration which is approved and affiliated by Cochin University of Science & Technology, Kochi recognized by UGC. And two trade courses - Vessel Navigator Course (VNC) & Marine Fitter Course (MFC) of 2-year duration approved by the Ministry of Labour and affiliated to the National Council for Vocational Training (NCVT). The institute also offers various Short term training programs.

Admissions 2022

Central Institute of Fisheries Nautical and Engineering Training (CIFNET) has announced admissions to the Bachelor of Fishery Science (Nautical Science) B.F.Sc.(N.S.) course for the year 2022-2023. The B.F.Sc.(N.S.) course is a 4-year (8 Semester) program mainly concerned with the study of fish capturing techniques, nautical science, and the operation of fishing vessels. This Degree course is affiliated with Cochin University of Science and Technology, Kochi. This program has a curriculum that is designed to provide profound practical knowledge to the students on various aspects of the fishing
and nautical sciences.

Total Intake capacity: 45 seats
  • Gen/ Gen - EWS/ OBC-NCL/ SC/ ST - 34 seats
  • Coastal Union Territory - 4 seats
  • NRI - 1 seat
  • Foreign National/Department of Fisheries - 1 seat
  • Lateral Entry System - 5 seats

Eligibility criteria

Candidates have to fulfil the following minimum eligibility criteria to apply for admission into B.F.Sc. (N.S) course in CIFNET:

  • Candidates who have passed 10 + 2 with minimum 50% marks in all subjects of PCB or
    PCM and only pass in 10 + 2 with PCB or PCM for SC/ST.
  • The candidates, who are appearing for 10+2 exams during 2022 are also eligible.
  • Candidates must have 17 to 20 years as on 1st October, 2022 ( maximum age for lateral entry is 22 years)

Selection procedure

Candidates will be shortlisted based on their performance in Common Entrance Test (CET) and academic merit. CET will be conducted on 2nd July 2022 at Kochi, Chennai and Vishakapatnam centers.

Application Process

Interested and eligible candidates are requested to download the prescribed application form and prospectus from the official website. Candidates have to send the filled-in application forms along with attested copies of qualification certificates, mark list of 10th & 12th Standard Examination, Age and Community Certificate (in the case of SC/ST/OBC(Non-Creamy Layer)/EWS, and one self-addressed (Unstamped) envelopes of size 25cms x 11cms to the below-mentioned address. The last date to receive the filled-in application along with necessary documents is 20th June 2022. Candidates need to pay the application fee of Rs. 500/- (for general/ OBC) and Rs. 250/- (for SC/ ST) through (If any doubts regarding fee payment please refer official website). E-receipt for making payment for the application should be enclosed along with the filled-in application.
