IIRS ISRO Overview of Space Science & Technology free online course


Looking for a free ISRO online course for children on space technology? This article provides details of unique online classes for school children on space science and technology conducted by the Indian Institute of Remote Sensing (IIRS) which is part of ISRO. Indian Institute of Remote Sensing (IIRS), Dehradun which is an integral part of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), Department of Space, Govt. of India is conducting a free Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) course for school students on the topic 'Overview of Space Science & Technology'. The goal of the course is to provide an insightful exposure to various scientific and technological aspects of space. Perhaps one day you may get an opportunity, too, to join ISRO with Aeronautical and Aerospace Engineering course specializations!

The course will be delivered through the E-Class Learning Management System (LMS) platform of IIRS. The sessions will begin on 6th June 2022 and a student can attend the sessions up to 5th July 2022. The course participation certificate is awarded by IIRS ISRO.

About the online course

As mentioned earlier, the course is free and you do not have to pay any registration fee or any fees for attending the course. The course modules will be covered over 10 hours in online mode only, through video sessions in English. You can watch the sessions as per a convenient day and time up to 5th July 2022. You will also get access to the download feature that will enable you to download and save (in PDF format) the study material that is relevant to the course. You can watch a session multiple times. A discussion forum will be available on which you can type in a query related to the sessions, and get your doubts cleared.



Who can apply

The course is strictly for school children only and the only eligibility criterion is that the student should be a minimum of 10 years of age. Both Indian and foreign students are welcome to enrol in the course.

What you will learn

The course lectures will give you details about India's space programs, astronomy, communication and navigation systems, satellites, career scope of doing courses in geospatial technology, etc. Additionally, you will know about how satellite images are read and information extracted from them, and how a Geographic Information System (GIS) is used to check data related to Earth and effectively utilized for solving problems.

What are the general requirements

: When you log in to a session, your attendance will be automatically recorded for that session. Upon completing the course, you are required to participate in a Quiz that forms the assessment of what you have learned through the online sessions.



The Course Participation Certificate will be generated once you attend the sessions and participate in the Quiz. However, for receiving this certificate, you need to have a minimum attendance of 70% and you must score at least 60% on the Quiz. It is also required to give feedback about the course before you generate the certificate.

Registration procedure

A student interested in attending the sessions should register online at https://isat.iirs.gov.in/mooc.php and fill in the required details. The student's photo should also be scanned and uploaded in jpg or jpeg or png format (the file size should not exceed 2MB). The student will then get the login credentials through email.

How to attend the online course

The student is required to log in at the IIRS E-CLASS LMS- https://eclass-intl-lms.iirs.gov.in/login/index.php from 6th June 2022 onwards in order to get access to the course.

Important Dates

Registration begins on 17th May 2022 and can be done up to the closing date of the online sessions, namely 5th July 2022.
The course will begin on 6th June 2022 and sessions will be available for access up to 5th July 2022.
