How to join Indian Navy for training as Agniveer SSR or MR recruits


Keen to join the Indian Navy as an Agniveer? This article provides complete information on the eligibility requirements, application procedure, and entrance test to join the Indian Navy as Agniveer Senior Secondary Recruit (SSR) or as an Agniver Matric Recruit (MR).

The Central Government recently launched the Agnipath scheme under which the youth of India can join the training program of any unit of the Defence Services, namely the Indian Army, the Indian Navy, or the India Air Force as Agniveers for the duration of four years. After this, some of them will be eligible to be absorbed directly into that unit of the Defence Service and will get the health and other benefits applicable, including pension. Others will be discharged with a lump sum package with no benefits or pension. In the case of Indian Navy Agniveers, they can also get opportunities to join the Merchant Navy.

Look out for the official notifications from the Indian Navy on their website as well as in leading newspapers about Agniveer opportunities. In the meanwhile, here's information on how you can enroll in the Indian Navy as an Agniveer Senior Secondary Recruit (SSR) or as an Agniver Matric Recruits (MR).

Eligibility requirements

You should be between the age group of 17.5 to 23 years and are required to have passed the Matric exam/Class 12 exam as applicable. You should also be physically and mentally fit, fulfilling the required physical standards as mentioned below. It is mandatory to qualify in the Physical Fitness Test (PFT) to be eligible for selection.



Physical standards required-
Height: The minimum height standard is 157cms for male applicants, and 152 cms for female applicants.

Weight: As appropriate for the age and height of the applicant (refer to the chart that is displayed on the Indian Navy's official website).

Visual standards: (i) Without glasses: 6/6 for the better eye and 6/9 for the worse eye. (ii) With glasses: 6/6 for both, the better eye, and for the worse eye.

Application procedure to join Indian Navy as an Agniveer

You have to first register with a valid email ID at the Indian Navy official website. If you are already a registered candidate, you do not need to register again.

Once registered, submit the application at the same portal in online mode only. There are no other online sites or offline methods to join the Indian Navy as an Agniveer. Hence, do not be fooled by fake online platforms or agents who take the money and promise that you will get selected for the Indian Navy Agniveer recruitment.

Once you have registered, you can log in and apply, filling up the complete form. Before you do so, though, ensure that you have scanned the originals of the documents required and keep them ready for uploading while filling up the online application. The documents required are-
  1. Original Certificates and Mark Sheets of Class 10 and Class 12

  2. The Domicile Certificate

  3. The NCC Certificate (if applicable)

  4. Aadhar Card (this is mandatory)

Note- Originals of all of the above will be required to be brought for all the recruitment stages, such as the physical fitness test, the medical exam, etc. Ensure that the information that is on the original documents exactly matches the details that you gave in the online application form, otherwise, your application will be canceled.



What happens after the application

Shortlisted applicants will be required to download the call-up letter and the Admit Card from the Indian Navy website as these will not be sent as hard copies to them. Centers will be allocated for the written exam and the physical fitness test.

On the basis of marks in the written exam, you will be selected for the physical fitness test and you have to report to INS Chilka for the medical exam as per the date and time allotted to you in the call-up letter. You must fulfill the required medical eligibility conditions as applicable to the Branch or Trade for which you will be enrolled as an Agniveer.

Indian Navy Agniveer Written Exam Format

Appearing for the written exam is mandatory for all applicants who wish to enroll in the Indian Navy Agniveer training. The syllabi are available on the official website of the Indian Navy.

For Agniveer (SSR)

The written exam is of one hour. It will be available in English and Hindi with objective-type questions. There are 4 sections, and you must pass in aggregate as well as in each section. The sections are-
(i) English
(ii) Science
(iii) Maths
(iv) General Awareness

For Agniveer (MR)

The written exam based on the Class 10 academic level is of 30 minutes. It will be available in English and Hindi with objective-type questions. There are 2 sections, and you must pass in aggregate as well as in each section. The sections are-
(i) Science and Maths
(ii) General Awareness



Tentative schedule This is likely to be the schedule for enrollment of Agniveers in the Indian Navy-
Online registrations begin on 22nd June 2022.
Online applications will end on 31st July 2022.
Physical Tests and Medical Exam dates will be announced later.
Joining INS Chilka - date to be announced later (likely to be in November 2022).
