How to apply online and join Indian Air Force for training as Agniveer Vayu

The official notifications to enroll as Agniveers under the new Central Government's Agnipath scheme have been issued by the Indian Army, the Indian Navy, and today the Indian Air Force as well. This is a great opportunity for the youth of India to take up a career with the Defence Forces and serve the nation. Both male and female unmarried candidates can apply.

Applicants should ensure that they fulfill all the eligibility criteria, including physical and medical requirements, before applying for this prestigious training and role. Note that in the case of an applicant who is below the age of 18 years, the enrollment form must be signed by the parents or guardians (as applicable). Also, a selected candidate should be ready to take up any assigned duty as required.



Career opportunities for IAF Agniveers

On successfully completing the training period, an Agniveer will be awarded a skill-set certificate that will indicate the skills and level of competency that has been acquired during that period. The Agniveer who wishes to continue in the Indian Air Force can then enroll for an opportunity to join the regular, permanent cadre with up to 25% of a specific batch then absorbed. Agniveers can also avail themselves of career technical, administrative, and other opportunities in the government and private sector.

Remuneration for IAF Agniveers

As an Agniveer you are not entitled to gratuity or any kind of pensionary benefits. However, you will get life insurance cover of Rs. 48 lakhs for the duration of the training as Agniveers in the IAF and you will receive a monthly remuneration as shown in the table below-

Eligibility requirements

1. Nationality: You should be a citizen of India. Citizens of Nepal can also apply.

2. Age criteria: You should be born between 29th December 1999 and 29th June 2005 (both days inclusive). If you pass all stages of the selection process, then the upper age limit as of the date of enrolment is 23 years.

3. Academic Qualifications: For those who have taken up science subjects, it is essential for you to have passed the Intermediate exam/10+2 exam/any equivalent exam with Maths, Physics, and English from an Education Board that is listed as a member of the Council of Boards of School Education (COBSE) with at least 50% marks in aggregate as well as at least 50% marks in English.

Other acceptable educational qualifications are-
  • You should have passed a 3-year Diploma Course in Engineering from a Govt.-recognized polytechnic institute with min.50% marks in aggregate and 50% marks in English in the course (or in the Intermediate or Matric exam if English is not a subject in the Diploma course).

  • You should have passed a 2-year Vocational Course with a non-vocational subject, namely, Physics and Maths, from a State Education Board or State Education Council that is listed in COBSE with at least 50% marks in aggregate as well as at least 50% marks in English (or in the Intermediate or Matric exam if English is not a subject in the vocational course).

For those who have not taken up science subjects, it is essential for you to have passed the Intermediate exam/10+2 exam/any equivalent exam in any subjects from a Central Education Board or a State Education Board that is listed as a member of the Council of Boards of School Education (COBSE) with at least 50% marks in aggregate as well as at least 50% marks in English. The other acceptable qualification is- You should have passed a 2-year vocational course from an Education Board listed by COBSE with at least 50% marks in aggregate as well as at least 50% marks in English or in the Intermediate or Matric exam if English is not a subject in the vocational course.

4. Medical Standards: You must be physically and mentally fit and fulfill all the required medical standards. The minimum acceptable height is 152.5 cm. and the weight should be proportionate to height and age. For other requirements for vision, hearing, dental, etc refer to the official website.

Application procedure to join IAF as an Agniveer

You have to register with a valid email ID and phone number and submit your application in online mode only at https://agnipathvayu.cdac.in. No other form of application will be accepted. The exam fee of Rs.250/- must also be paid either online with a debit card or credit card or through Net banking or offline with a Challan payment at any branch of Axis Bank. You can select up to five choices for the test center, and up to 7 choices for the Airmen Selection Centre (ASC).

Ensure that you keep the following scanned documents ready to upload during the online application process (it is advisable to scan the originals of the documents for better clarity)-
  1. The Class 10/matriculation passing certificate

  2. Whichever is applicable-The Intermediate/10+2 or equivalent mark sheet or
    The 3-year engineering Diploma final year mark sheet and Matriculation mark sheet (if English is not a subject in the Diploma Course) or
    The 2-year vocational course mark sheet and marks sheets of non-vocational course with subjects English, Physics, and Maths

  3. A passport size recent color photo (taken not before April 2022) of size 10KB to 50KB (front portrait in light background without head gear except for Sikhs).
    Note- The photo should be taken with the applicant holding a black slate in front of his chest with his name and date of photo taken clearly written on it with white chalk in capital letters.
  4. The applicant's left-hand thumb impression image (size 10KB to 50KB)

  5. The applicant's signature image (size 10KB to 50KB)

  6. The applicant's parent's (Father/Mother)/Guardian's signature image (if the candidate is below 18 years on the date of filling the online application).

  7. The mark sheet indicating marks in English subject in Diploma or in 12th/10th if English is not a subject in the Diploma, as applicable.

Note- It is mandatory to enter the Aadhar Card number in the online application. However, applicants who are from J&K, Assam, and Meghalaya are exempted from this and must bring the Aadhaar Card as ID proof for the selection tests and the medical test. Applicants who are from J&K, Assam, and Meghalaya can bring any other valid photo ID proof.

IAF Agniveer Entrance Test Format

There are two phases to the entrance test for selection to be enrolled into the training program for Agniveers. Phase-1 is an online test at a test center. The questions will be objective-type ones and the question paper will be available in both Hindi and English (except for the paper in English). One mark will be awarded for a correct answer, 0.25 will be deducted for an incorrect answer, and zero will be allotted for an unattempted question. The sections of the test are as follows-
For Science Subjects: English, Physics, and Maths, based on the 10+2 CBSE syllabus [one hour paper].

For Other Than Science Subjects: English based on the 10+2 CBSE syllabus and Reasoning & General Awareness [45 minutes paper].

For Science Subjects & Other Than Science Subjects: English, Physics, and Maths based on the 10+2 CBSE syllabus and Reasoning & General Awareness [85 minutes paper].



Based on the marks scored by candidates, a cut-off will be decided on, and shortlisted candidates will be eligible to appear for Phase-II which is the Physical Fitness Test, and for which a new Admit Card will be issued and despatched to the email ID of the candidate. Those who successfully clear the fitness test will then have to appear for an Adaptability Test-1 and subsequently on clearing this, Adaptability Test-II.

Those who clear the above will then appear for Phase III of the selection procedure, which is the Medical Exam for which candidates must be present at the designated Medical Boarding Centre (MBC) on the date allotted to them.

The online registrations will begin on 24th June 2022 at 10:00hrs.
The online registrations will close on 5th July 2022 at 17:00hrs.
Online Exam dates: 24th July 2022 (the exact dates will be announced later).

It is very significant to note that already more than 90000 candidates have applied for this. That has to be seen in the context that there were misguided and misunderstood responses from some sections. It is now clear that youths of this country are ready to take up such challenging and worthy avenues. I am sure those who get selected will have a bright future and a disciplined life ahead.

This is a very timely article for guiding the students for becoming an Agniveer Vayu in the Indian Air Force in case they are interested in the Agneepath scheme of central government. Seeing the status of unemployment conditions in our country this scheme looks quite attractive and remuneration are also very lucrative. After the completion of the proposed tenure there are good chances of getting absorbed in the army and the meritorious students would definitely be benefited by this.
Added to that the compulsory savings along with government contribution would be a great financial help to these students.
