All the Visual Arts Degree courses offered by the M.G.R. Film and Television Institute, Chennai will be taught in English medium only. Students enrolled in the course must adhere to the rules and regulations of the institute or they may face disciplinary action. They will appear in the semester pattern of exams as required. On completing the course, the graduates will be conferred with the Degree Certificate of the Tamil Nadu Dr. J. Jayalalithaa Music and Fine Arts University, Govt. of Tamil Nadu, one of the best universities to study for a career in Fine Arts.Reservation of seats
For each of the Degree programs in Visual Arts offered by the Tamil Nadu Government M.G.R. Film and Television Institute, Chennai, one seat is reserved for candidates of other States, while one is reserved for children of those connected with the film industry and are also sponsored by the President, South Indian Film Chamber of Commerce, Chennai. In case these seats are not filled up by deserving meritorious candidates, then they will be available for other qualified candidates from the State.
Qualifying exam marks criterion
For admission, 40% in the qualifying exam is essential for MBC/DNC, BC, and OC candidates, while for SC and ST candidates a pass in the qualifying exam is sufficient. In the case of those having a Diploma in Electronics and Communication Engineering or a Diploma in Electrical and Electronics Engineering and applying for admission to the Cinematography or Audiography or Digital Intermediate course, marks of all the semesters/years in aggregate will be considered.
In shortlisting the applicants who will get admission, three things are considered- the marks scored in the qualifying exam, the scores in the aptitude test, and the scores in the interview. For all the courses, you should not be over 24 years of age as of 1st July 2022. In the case of those applying in the SC and ST categories, the maximum age limit is 26 years.
It is mandatory to submit a fitness certificate in the prescribed format from a qualified Medical Officer who is in the rank of a Civil Assistant Surgeon or higher rank.Visual Arts Degree courses at the institute
Bachelor of Visual Arts – Cinematography
There are 14 seats for the 4-year course.
What you will learn: You will acquire knowledge of, and training in, how to handle digital film camera equipment and learn the technical as well as creative aspects of cinematography.
Eligibility: You should have passed the 10+2 exam in the subjects of Physics and Chemistry. Other acceptable qualifications are- Completed a vocational course with photography as a special subject or any equivalent qualification with other specifications as afore-mentioned. If you have a Diploma in Electrical & Electronics Engineering or a Diploma in Electronics & Communication Engineering, then also you are eligible to apply.Bachelor of Visual Arts – Digital Intermediate

There are 14 seats for the 4-year course.
What you will learn: You will acquire knowledge of, and training in, live and audio recording for films and television. You will get hands-on training in film recording with contemporary equipment.
Eligibility: You should have passed the 10+2 exam in the subjects of Physics and Chemistry. Other acceptable qualifications are- Completed a vocational course related to radio and TV or domestic electronic equipment as a special subject or any equivalent qualification with other specifications as afore-mentioned. The Table below shows the fee structure that is applicable to all the above Degree programs in Visual Arts for the academic year 2022. However, the fee may be revised later as per Govt. directives.

Note- You are exempt from paying the Tuition Fee only if applying for admission as an SC or ST candidate.Application procedure
The application form is available in the official prospectus on the official websites (refer to the end of this article). A separate application should be submitted for each course. If you are from Chennai and wish to receive the application form by post, then you should enclose a self-addressed envelope (the envelope size should be 30cmx25cm) with postal stamps to the value of Rs.30/-. If you are from outside Chennai, the stamps should be to the value of Rs.47/-, while those from outside the State of Tamil Nadu should put stamps to the value of Rs.71/-. You do not need to visit the institute in person to obtain the application form.
The application fee is Rs.200/- (this includes the registration fee) for all applicants, other than SC and ST Candidates. In the case of SC/ST candidates who are from Tamil Nadu, the fee is Rs.60/-. All SC and ST candidates are required to produce a photocopy of the community certificate as supporting proof. Note that the SC and ST candidates of all other States will be considered for admission as OC candidates. The application fee should be drawn in favor of the Principal, Tamil Nadu Government M.G.R Film and Television Institute, Tharamani, Chennai-600113 from any bank payable in Chennai.
The application form for admission should be filled in by the applicant in his/her own handwriting. The completed form should be sent to the Principal, Tamil Nadu Government M.G.R. Film and Television Institute, C.I.T. Campus, Tharamani, Chennai - 600 113 accompanied by the required photocopies of the certificates/testimonials that must be duly attested by the applicant.
Important notes:
(i) The latest income certificate of the parent or guardian as obtained from the competent authority must be produced at the time of admission.
(ii) An applicant who is from Chennai should affix a postal stamp of Rs.18, while the applicants belonging to places other than Chennai should affix a postal stamp of Rs.42/- on the self-addressed envelope (the size of the envelope should be 26 cm x 12 cm) for receiving the call letter for the interview.
(iii) A Demand Draft that has been obtained prior to 24th June 2022 will not be accepted.Important dates
