The Directorate of Higher Education, Govt. of NCT of Delhi has announced admissions open for students for Classes 6th to 9th to Delhi Sports School (DSS), the first residential sports school of the Delhi Sports University for the academic session 2022-23 with the byline 'Khel Hi Padai Hai' (sports itself is education). The goal is to discover talented youngsters in the field of sports and nurture this talent to make them outstanding athletes, preparing them for opportunities to participate in national and international sporting events. Delhi Sports School will function under the aegis of Delhi Sports University, offering free education and training with separate residential facilities for girls and boys. The entire education and training will be funded by Delhi Sports University.

The Delhi Sports School will provide excellent infrastructure and facilities for both academics and sports. The medium of instruction is English and Hindi. Students enrolled in the school will get high-quality coaching from experts in their chosen field of sport with 10 Olympic sports offered at DSS. Academics will get equal priority, with students learning from the curriculum of the Delhi Board of Secondary Education (DBSE). This is equivalent to CBSE as per the Association of Indian Universities (AIU). Students are required to perform well in both, academics and sports. Upon completing their studies at DSS, the students can continue their sports training as well as academics at Delhi Sports University.

Eligibility requirements for admission to DSS
Age criterion
For admission to Class 6, you should be between 11 to 13 years of age.
For admission to Class 7, you should be between 12 to 14 years of age.
For admission to Class 8, you should be between 13 to 15 years of age.
For admission to Class 9, you should be between 14 to 16 years of age.Educational Qualification
You should have passed the class previous to the one that you are applying for. For example, you should have passed Class 5 for admission to Class 6 at DSS, and passed Class 6 if you are seeking admission to Class 7 at DSS.Sports performances
For admission to Classes 6 and 7: If you have performed professionally in badminton, table tennis, lawn tennis, or swimming, you can apply for admission to any of these on the basis of performance records. If you have not performed professionally in a sport, but have the potential, then you can apply for admission through the 'other sports' category and choose from any of these sports - archery, boxing, shooting, athletics (including track and field events), wrestling, and weightlifting.
For admission to Classes 8 and 9: You have to select a primary sport from the 10 identified Olympic sports (mentioned above earlier in this article) based on performance records.How to register and apply for DSS admissions
Applications for admission to Delhi Sports School will be accepted only in online mode at http://dsu.ac.in/registration
The first part of the registration form requires you to fill in the basic information, such as name, address, contact number, etc. It is mandatory to provide the Aadhaar Card number as well.
In the second part of the registration form where the details of the student's profile are required, you have to mention the name of the school and address, current class, height and weight, date of birth, and for which class you are applying to DSS. Note that the date of birth should be one that is mentioned in the birth certificate/school document.
In the third part of the registration form, sports achievements are to be filled in. You can also mention participation in inter-school competitions. In this section, you can select up to three preferences of the sport that you wish to take up at DSS.
Once all the information has been filled up, you can preview it. In case any corrections are required to be made, use the 'Edit' button. On final submission, you will see a registration number that you should note it down for future reference. An option to download, save, and take a printout of the completed application is also provided.
Important Notes
During the admission and selection procedures of Delhi Sports School, as well as when required, you must submit the relevant documents as supporting proof of your participation and achievements as applicable in the sport that you have selected for admission to DSS.
The student will have to relocate to Delhi and stay on the DSS campus. Also, the student will be expected to represent Delhi at sports competitions and undergo physical fitness/medical tests when required.Selection procedure
There are three Levels to getting selected for admission to DSS-
At Level 1, there will be talent scouting in various States.
At Level 2, selection trials will be held in New Delhi.
At Level 3, shortlisted candidates will undergo a medical exam, and subsequently procedures for final admission to DSS.Contact information
