When the NDA government suggested her name as the candidate for the president post since then it was known that she is going to be our next president. However, Opposition parties went to a leader like Sharad Pawar, and Farooq Abdullah for their presidential candidate, and when both were turned down the invitation, finally Yashwant Sinha was made for the opposition candidate who lost to Droupadi Murmu.

Droupadi Murmu was born on 20th June 1958 in Uparbeda village, Mayurbhanj district in Odisha. She belongs to a Santhal tribal family, and she was the first girl from her village to go to college. She got married to Mr Shyam Charan Murmu, who was a banker and who passed away in 2014. The couple had two sons and a daughter. Unfortunately, she lost her both sons and now her daughter Itishri Murmu who works at UCO bank in Odisha.
Ms Murmu is a keen follower of Bramha Kumari's spiritual movement, a movement that helped her after she lost her important family members.

The early career of Droupadi Murmu

She started her career as a junior assistant in the State Irrigation and Power Department from 1979 to 1983 in Odisha and later as a teacher at Sri Aurobindo Integral Education Centre at Rairangpur till 1997 when she used to teach Hindi, Odia, Maths, and Geography before entering into politics.

The political career of Droupadi Murmu

In 1997, Ms Murmu joined the Bharatiya Janata Party and was elected as the councillor of the Rairangpur Nagar Panchayat. In the year 2000, she went to become the chairperson of the same Panchayat and was also appointed as the National Vice-President of Bharatiya Janata Party Scheduled Tribes Morcha.

As a Governor of Jharkhand

In 2015, she became the first woman to become the Governor of Jharkhand and also the first female tribal leader selected as a Governor of any Indian state. She was the first Governor in Jharkhand state who completed her term. Jharkhand administrators, political leaders, and people close to her describe her as a "kindhearted and unbiased" and down-to-earth person who is easily reachable to all.

Conclusion

Now when she will start her term as the president of India, we sincerely hope that she will take India to another level as the Head of State. She is known as an experienced MLA, Governor, and a strong character. So, our expectations become even more from her. Let's hope that India would have a strong Supreme Commander of our Armed forces who should not hesitate to take strong action when needed.

A timely article written by the author. Today (25/07/2022) forenoon, the President-elect, Ms. Draupadi Murmu is going to take oath in Delhi and thereafter, she will become the 15th President of India. We don't know much about the family-members of the President-elect, although, even earlier also she held the constitutional post of Governor of Jharkhand. This proves her greatness. She prefers to remain low profile and work for the benefits of the downtrodden.

I have no doubt that the new President of India will help emancipation of India's vast tribal community and also those people who belong to the lower economic strata.
