Asia Cup Cricket tournament 2022 Schedule, Time, and Venues
Do you want to know the details of the Asia Cup 2022 ICC cricket Tournament? Who is hosting this Asia cup? How many teams are participating? Will it be a T20 or ODI format? Every detail is mentioned in this article.
Finally, the Asia Cup is scheduled and announced by the ICC and this will be the 15th edition of the Asia cup Cricket tournament since it started in 1984 in Sharjah. It was scheduled to play in Sri Lanka but due to the political situation, now it is shifted to UAE. However, Sri Lanka still will be a hosting team. The tournament will start on 27 August with Sri Lanka Vs Afghanistan in Dubai and it will end on September 11 with the final again in Dubai. It was supposed to play in 2020 with the same host Sri Lanka but due to Covid-19, the tournament was postponed and pushed to 2021, again it was postponed and moved to Pakistan for 2022. Pakistan was supposed to host the 2022 Asia cup but they got the right to host the Asia cup 2023 now. The game will be played in the T20 format and there will be 6 nations that will participate in this. The most successful team India has won 7 titles followed by Sri Lanka which has won 5. The last Asia cup was played in 2018 in which India defeated Bangladesh in the final. So, currently, India is the defending champion of Asia Cup 2022. Why the shift of the format in T20 or ODI in the Asia Cup?
Earlier the Asia cup format was ODI with a 50-over international match. Due to the popularity of the T20 format, for the first time in 2016, the Asia cup was held in T20 format because the T20 World cup was just ahead. The next 2018 Asia cup was played in ODI format seeing as the 2019 ODI world cup was scheduled ahead. So, this Asia cup will be played in T20 format because after a few months the T20 World cup has been scheduled. Again in 2023, this tournament will be back in ODI format because again a World cup ODI will be held just after. So, it will keep on changing its format seeing the T20 & ODI World cup tournaments.
