This article provides complete information on the eligibility criteria for teaching at an Army Public School through the 2022 Online Screening Test (OST) that is mandatory to be eligible for an APS teaching post for the next academic year. Details of the online registration procedure and exam format are also provided.
The Army Welfare Education Society (AWES) has released the notification for the November 2022 Online Screening Test (OST) for teaching vacancies that would arise during the academic year 2023-24. Overview
The Online Screening Test (OST) is conducted under the Adjutant General's Branch, Integrated HQ of the Ministry of Defence (Army) on behalf of the Boards of Administration at Regional Command Headquarters. The test is essential for eligibility to teach in an Army Public School (APS) in India. These CBSE-affiliated schools are located at Cantonments and Military Stations and all are under the aegis of AWES. There will be PRT, PGT, and TGT vacancies either on a regular basis or on a fixed-term basis. A candidate can apply for only one post, namely, PGT, TGT, or PRT. A selected candidate for a teaching appointment on a regular basis is liable for a transfer to another APS as per requirements. PGTs are eligible for teaching students of Classes IX-XII, TGT for teaching students of Classes VI-X, and PRT for teaching students of Classes I-V.
Once the result of the exam is declared, you will get a Scorecard that will permit you to appear for various stages of the selection process for a teaching position at the Army Public School. However, it is mandatory to take up a teaching position at an APS within three years of the issuance of the scorecard, and you must remain in the teaching post for a minimum of one year. The Scorecard is then valid for life and can be used at any time for taking up an APS teaching post. You can also appear for a subsequent OST to improve the scores or upgrade to a higher teaching post (e.g. from TGT to PGT).
