CSMVS Mumbai Dr. Devangana Desai Endowment Research Scholarships 2022-23

Overview

Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya (CSMVS) is a renowned museum that displays Art and History exhibits. Earlier known as the Prince of Wales Museum, it also schedules regular events, undertakes research work, and offers facilities to students, historians, and academicians. Knowledge of the unique culture and heritage of our country is conveyed through exhibitions, seminars, lectures, etc. In addition to the PG Diploma course in Museology and Conservation, the museum has Fellowship and Endowment programs for graduates, Ph.D. scholars, and researchers. One such Endowment Programme was launched by Dr. Devangana Desai, an art historian and a member of the CSMVS Board of Trustees, to encourage research studies in ancient, medieval, and pre-modern art, archaeology, architecture, culture, and history of India.



Applications are now open for the scholarships at senior and junior levels under the Dr. Devangana Desai Endowment Programme for 2022-23. From the eligible applications received, about 8-10 applicants will be shortlisted, and a final selection made after formally interviewing all the shortlisted candidates. Note that for the purpose of the interview, travel allowances will not be reimbursed. Other than working on research with guidance from mentors, one of the prime benefits of this scholarship is getting access to the museum archives and collections, as well as to the extensive library and Art Conservation Centre with prior permission.

About the Scholarship

The scholarship under the Dr. Devangana Desai Endowment program is for the duration of one year, from October 2022 to September 2023. There are two scholarships, namely, a Junior Scholarship, and a Senior Scholarship, with stipends. On the award of this scholarship, you are not permitted to apply for any other scholarship or Fellowship. Also, the scholarship cannot be postponed to a later year or renewed.

Scholarship Stipends: A Junior Scholar will receive a total endowment amount of Rs.1,50,000/-, while a Senior Scholar will receive a total endowment amount of Rs. 2,50,000/-. For both, the amount includes travel allowances.



Eligibility requirements

A. For the Junior Scholarship-
Age criterion: You must be between 23 to 40 years of age.

Academic Qualification: You should have completed a Post Graduate degree from a recognized University or institution.

B. For the Senior Scholarship-
Age criterion: You must be above 40 years of age.

Academic/Professional Qualifications: You should have a minimum of 8 years of experience in the field and published work, or have a Ph.D.

Application procedure

The completed application form has to be submitted along with the following documents-
Your C.V./resume should include details of your educational qualifications, professional experience if any, awards and honors, published work if any, any fellowships or Grants that you may have received earlier, and a description of your fields of research interests.

A project/research proposal of not more than 1000 words (use 12-point type, and put double-spaced text) that clearly outlines- (i) A description of the research that you are keen to undertake and the reason for choosing it; (ii) Identification of the problem(s) to be investigated and the hypothesis to be analyzed, as well as the supporting method to be applied for it; (iii) The research methods that you intend to use; and (iv) A brief account of work already accomplished by you/other scholars in the proposed field.

Two recommendations, one of which should be an academic one, and another a professional one. The persons who recommend you would be required to specify the range and depth of your knowledge and experience about the topic and provide evidence of your ability to produce quality work.
