Advantages and disadvantages of joining tuition classes

In this article, I am explaining the advantages and disadvantages of tuition classes. A busy parent who is not able to monitor the child's study after school or is not able to improve child's performance sends him to tuition classes. Can a tuition teacher really improve performance of the child? Is the child really benefited by the tuition classes?

Many students go to tuition classes after returning from school. Apart from studying in school, children go to tuition classes to review the chapters taught in school. A teacher is not able to provide adequate attention to the students in a classroom. So, the parents send the kids to tuition classes to learn in a proper manner. Some parents even arrange for an online tutor on their devices. Many parents cannot help their kids in their studies as they are busier or are unable to cope with the current syllabus. They send their kids to tuition classes to study effectively and score well in the examination.

Advantages of sending kids to tuition classes

In the school, the students are not able to acquire personal attention due to the poor teacher-to-student ratio. In the tuition classes, the kids can practice different exercises from the textbooks, perform several tests, clarify doubts, and interact confidently with the teacher. Many children are learning online today, and the mentors even provide weekly feedback about the student. They track the academic progress of the child every now and then. If a child is weaker in a particular subject, then the mentors can focus more on the subject. A teacher in a classroom cannot access the academic proficiency of a student in depth. A tuition teacher can conduct tests frequently to prepare them for exams. Many children cannot study effectively at home as they are easily distracted by fascinating devices such as mobiles, smartphones, television, etc. But a tuition teacher can strictly restrict such activities. A child can study regularly for an hour or two hours and complete the prescribed syllabus before the examination. Such kids can confidently appear for an examination and pass it with flying colors.

Disadvantages of sending kids to tuition classes

The kids are usually tired after returning home, and they feel even more fatigued about going to tuition classes again. When a child is spending seven hours a day in school, he or she should again spend two hours in a tuition class. Instead of playing merrily, larking around, and doing some extra-curricular activities, a child should again sit to study. If the tuition teacher does not pay adequate attention to the child, the child will not benefit in any way. Some tuition teachers provide tuition to several students and are not able to give adequate attention to weaker students. If a student is academically weak, a tuition teacher may be unable to improve the child's academic performance because the child requires a special tutor. If a student is unable to learn quickly, some tutors become aggressive toward the student. As a result, the child benefits greatly if the teacher is patient and has emotional intelligence. A parent can truly identify the learning pattern of the child, which cannot be recognized by a tutor. Although a tuition teacher is providing adequate attention to the child, she may not be able to employ appropriate teaching methods. So, a child may not improve academic performance even after studying. Instead of sending a kid to tuition class, parents should teach a student at home.

A parent should send a child to tuition class only if the child is too weak or is not obeying the parents at home. If the child's performance is consistently improving, they should keep sending him or her to tuition. A tuition teacher should be able to guide and help the child and elevate the child's academic performance.

Here are some of the points which I think is worth mentioning-
1. It will be financial burden for some parents sending their child to tuition classes.
2. The benefits of sending tuition won't fetch immediate results and it may take some time.
3. The tuition classes should be a continuation of their regular classes and not a replacement for them.
4. It will be difficult in certain situations for the parents to find the perfect teacher for their child.
5. Sending students to tuition classes won't guarantee academic success. It is the parents responsibility to monitor the progress of the student and act accordingly.

Above all, the students need to develop self-study habits and self motivation to achieve academic success.
